  • First fleet

    First fleet
    The first fleet ships sailed to shore on 13 May 1788 only to discover australia which had already been discovered by the aboriginals. Collie Crew describes this as an invastion of the "white men".
  • Day of mourning

    Day of mourning
    For some this day was the 150th anniversary of the first fleet landing in Australia, and for others it was the day of mourning. For those celabrating the arrival of the first fleet there was alot af acting, marching and partying, however those who mourned had to wait for the celabatories of the first fleet to finish before thay could start the march in 'silent protest'. This is now a yearly event.
  • We are going - Oodgeroo Noonucal

    We are going is a poem by Oodgeroo Noonucal written in 1964 about the aboriginal experience when the first fleet arived. This involves the value of tradition - 'A semi-naked band' - this shows that the traditional clothing was worn.
  • Freedom ride

    Freedom ride
    The freedom rides was a group of high school ctudents who set out for a journey to protest against segragation on aboriginals at places like swimming pools, restraunts, theaters, and so on. This journey unfortunately ended on the 15th of May but this team of students bought the referendum 2 years later.
  • Wave hill strike / From little things big things grow

    Wave hill strike / From little things big things grow
    Wave hill strike involved 200 aboriginal stockmen who refused to work as they were not getting paid fairly. In memorial, a song was created called 'from little things big things grow'. The song was written by P.Kelly/K and Carmody, the values represented are land, storytelling and friendship. Land - 'We're sitting right here till we get our land.' Storytelling - 'he went round softly speaking his story.' Friendship - 'We have friends in the south in the cities and towns.'

    The year when aboriginal's had citizenship and vote rights. Before this time aboriginals were known as flora & fauna (non-human). Collie Crew thinks that just because they are black "they are not just flora & fauna".
  • Kill to Eat - Oodgeroo Noonuccal

    Kill to eat is an Aboriginal text which includes the values represented in this text are tradition, family and respect for animals. Tradition - 'Dad taught us how to catch our food aboriginal style' - this shows that the father values passing on his hunting knowledge to his kids. Respect for animals - 'Never kill for the sake of killing' - this shows the aboriginies value animals enough to not kill them. Family - 'we must all take the blame' - this shows they stick up and value family.
  • Yothu Yindi - Treaty

    Yothu Yindi - Treaty
    Yothu Yindi a rock band group sang about the treaty/promise made between Bob Hawke (PM) and the traditional custodians back in 1988. The value represented in this song is tradition. The aboriginal talking represents all the tradition.
  • The 'stolen child' report

    The 'stolen child' report
    On 26th of May 1997 the government got a 160 paged report by an aboriginal on a stolen child. This was infact written about an unfair law held against the aboriginal which said aboriginal children would get taken away from their family as a child and would get released back in to the world at the age of 18. Inbetween these times they would be held at 'black persons camp'. Before this report the 'white people' were stealing children for years, this is now known as ' the stolen generation'.

    The first ever national sorry day. This is now a national and yearly event which gives everyone a chance to step forward to heal the hearts of the families involved in the stolen generations. The stolen generations refer to the australian aboriginal families and communities whos children were forced to go to 'blackfulla camp'.

    Invasion day is also known as australia day. The aboriginal people had a rally day in brisbane in 2008. The aboriginals protested agianst the invasion of the first fleet.

    This day was the day Kevin Rudd said sorry in his half an hour speech.
