Queen Elizabeth allowed Raleigh to send over 100 men to Roanoke Island (off of the coast of North Carolina)after two of his explorers North Carolina to be perfect place for a settlement. -
John White was put in charge
John white was put in charge and John White brought his family along.Upon arrival in 1587, they found out the men were killed by some of his people. Fernandez demanded they settled here instead of Chesapeake Bay because John White wanted to get back to a dispute starting to fester between Spain and England. -

Oceanus Hopkins was born on Mayflower in 1620. She was born and her parents named her Oceanus Hopkins. She was born on a ship they named her Oceanus because she was born on the ocean. -

In 1621 they celebrated there first Thanksgiving! They did not celebrate to eat food they were religious community and they used it for a term of praying and being grateful. -
Traveling to Massachusetts
They traveled across Massachusetts Bay to a rocky harbor called plymouth. There was a humungous rock that they named it plymouth Rock that still sits there today! They decided to stay and establish there own colony. -
