  • National Mental Health Act

    The National Mental Health Act is to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.
  • Public Law 88-164

    Public Law 88-164, or the Community Mental Health Act, was established by President John F. Kennedy to allocate funding for establishing community mental health centers. It also ensured that all children with disabilities have access to free public education.
  • Public Law 99-142

    Date is not exact. ducation for All Handicapped Children Act took effect in 1977 and was designed to assure that public education is available to all children with disabilities with learning programs that emphasize special education and related services that are specialized according to their needs.
  • Education of the Handicapped Act Public Law 99-457

    Established by Ronald Reagan to allocate federal funds for the states to help develop plans and prgrams for chrildren with disabilitis. This is supposed to be from the time they are born.
  • Javits Act (PL 100-297)

    (date not exact) NY Senator Jocob Javits provided small sums of money to support demostration programs and research regarding the special needs of gifted students.
  • Americans with Disablities Act of 1990

    Established by George Bush. This act extends civil rights to people with disabilies
  • No Child Left Behind Act of 2001

    Established to hold schools and educatiors responsible for students' learning with the purpose of bringing all students to a maximum level of competency.
  • Individualts with Disabilities Education Act of 2004

    Became effective July 1, 2005 and includes major changed to PL 99-142 which inclluded quality certification for teachers.
  • Americans with Disability Amendments Act of 2008

    Included the most improtand changed on ADA legoisltion that extended the right for individuals with disabilities.
