    The Mongols wanted to go through Dia Viet, a Vietnamese city in order to attack the song from the south. They refused. The Mongols easily took Dia Viet and then seized the capital city and burned it to the ground. The Mongols were struggling from lack of food and did not do well in the tropical climate. Because of this when the Vietnamese launched a counter offensive attack the Mongols were forced to retreat. While retreating the Mongols were attacked by local partisans and forced out of Vietnam

    In 1264 Ariq Boke, Kublai's brother, did not agree with Kublai being great Khan. Because of this he tried to lure Kublai up north in order to kill him by saying they needed to mourn over Mangu Khan. Kublai was warned not to go so he declined the invitation. Then Ariq Boke sent another message to lure Kublai and this time he went and brought 50,000 soldiers. He defeated Ariq Boke and his forces. Later Ariq Boke went to Kublai to surrender. Kublai killed his generals but spared Ariq Boke.

    After taking over parts of China Kublai Khan created the Yuan dynasty. It was the first foreign dynasty in China. Chinese influence was controlled by large numbers of Mongols and Central Asians. After Kublai defeated the Sung dynasty he was the unquestioned ruler of an empire that stretched across two nations.

One time Kublai sent Marco Polo on a special mission to escort a princess. When He came back from his journey Kublai was dead and Mongolia was in decline.

    In 1278 all Jews in England were accused of coin clipping. They had their homes searched and there was a possibly they could be arrested. About 680 were put in the London Tower Prison. More than 300 Jewish citizens were executed in 1279.

    In 1281 Kublai prepared to launch a naval attack on Japan. He sent 140,000 men to Japan. They landed on Kyushu, Japans southernmost island. Kublai's forces forces were hit by a typhoon called the Kamikaze. This killed almost half the forces. The Japanese slaughtered or imprisoned anybody who washed up on the shores. This badly damaged the Mongolian army's psychological edge of terror it always held over its enemy.

    Kublai Khan Dies
    On February 18th 1294 in Ta-tu, China Kublai Khan died. Kublai's grandson Temür is his successor. in honor of Kublai he made a posthumous temple called Shih-tsu which means regenerating progenitor. This is because Kublai was known as T'ai-tsu which means grand progenitor.
