Kite Runner up to chapter 14

  • The reason Baba is so close to Ali

    Two Pashtun boys were high and they stole a car and ended up killing two Hazara's leaving a son orphaned the judge who sentenced the pashtun boys to military service was Baba's father and the orphaned boy was Ali. Baba's father invited Ali to live with them.
  • Description of Hassan

    "his almost perfect round face, a face like a Chinese doll chiselled from hardwood: his flat, broad nose and slanting narrow eyes...And the cleft lip, just left of midline, where the Chinese doll makers instrument may have slipped".
  • The soldier stops Amir and Hassan

    The soldier talks about how Hassan's mother had sex with him beside a creek this is the first bullying incident we see in the book.
  • Different racial descriptions of Hazaras

    "mice-eating, flat nosed, load carrying donkeys I had heard some of the kids in the street yell those names to Hassan.

    When Amir was born he killed his mother and he feels as though this was the reason Baba dislikes him however the real reason is because he is not manly enough
  • Amir reads to Hassan

    Amir and Hassan go to a pomegranate tree everyday and Amir reads stories to Hassan and if he doesn't know what a word means Amir bullies him a little bit.
  • Rahim Kahn's compliment

    After reading Amir's book Kahn writes him a letter with the greatest compliment Amir ever gets as a writer and it is the word "Bravo"
  • The introduction of Assef

    The first time we see Assef is when he tries to bully Amir and Hassan and when he threatens them Hassan pulls out his sling shot and aims it at Assef's left eye.
  • the only thing Baba and Amir have in common

    kite flying "I lived in the same house, but in different spheres of existence. Kites were the one paper thin slice of intersection between those spheres"

    the only time Amir feels envious of Hassan is on this night where both children are scared but Hassan has a dad there to hug but Amir doesnt

    in the winter of 1975 Amir and Hassan win the kite flying tournament and Hassan runs the last kite "for you a thousand times over" when he finally gets the kite he gets chased by Assef and his goons
  • The Pivotal moment of the story

    Assef catches Hassan in an alley where he asks for the kite. when Hassan doesn't give it to him all 3 of the boys beat him to the floor and when he is there Assef rapes him. Amir watches all of this.
  • Hassan's recluse

    throughout the rest of that winter Hassan rarely shows his face he completes all of his tasks before Amir wakes up and goes back to bed and they do not speak for the rest of winter.
  • Amir's Birthday

    Ali gets Amir the gift of a book which is not "worthy" of Amir. Assef is also at the party and he keeps asking Hassan to bring drinks. Kahn also gives Amir the present of a notebook the only present Amir cherishes that year.
  • Amir's moral low point

    Amir tells Baba that his watch has been stolen and that Hassan has it under his bed. when asked about this Hassan admits to it even though he didn't do anything and Baba forgives him. Ali then tells Baba that they must now leave Baba begs him to stay. Amir never makes an excuse for his actions.
  • The great escape

    Baba and Amir are forced to leave Kabul due to the invasion of the Russians. On their way out of the country one Russian guard asks for 30 minutes with a lady on the wagon. Baba stands up and asks him "where is his decency" this shows how he is polar to Amir who would've let this happen. the guard threatens to shoot Baba but he stands strong. The womans husband then kisses Baba's hand as a thankyou.
  • America

    Baba and Amir are now living in Fremont, California and Baba doesn't fit in because he is not as well known as he was I Kabul. He went from being respected in Kabul to working in a petrol station in America.
  • Graduation

    Amir graduates community college and decides that he wants to study English at university. Baba takes him out and turns it into people celebrating Baba.
  • Soraya

    Amir meets Soraya at the Afghan flea market. she is the daughter of a General and he is only able to speak to Soraya when the general is not there.
  • Baba's diagnosis

    Baba is diagnosed with lung cancer and only has months to live.
  • the engagement/the marriage

    Amir asks Baba to ask General taheri for his daughters hand in marriage. the engagement stage is very short and they get married very quickly so that Baba can still attend the wedding.
  • love/life/death

    Baba dies after the marriage and Amir and Soraya move out of the apartment and buy a new one after selling the old bus that Baba bought
