The last time Hassan will Fly a kite
With the annual Kite fighting competition coming up Amir is sad to see Hassan fly his last kite, "In the Winter of 1975, I saw Hassan run a kite for the last time"(55, Hosseini). In the result of a tradgic event that happens later in the book Amir will never see Hassan fly a kite again. This i s Amir's fault because he is able to control on wether or not he ever sees Hassan again. -
Winter of 1975
After Going to find Hassan, Amir found Hassan in a dark alley with Assef behing him thrusting his hips," He kept one hand on Hassans back and undid his belt buckle with his free hand. He unzipped his jeans. Dropped his underware"(Hosseini, 75). Amir is a coward to just stand there and watch just because he is scared he will get hurt. Amir didnt have the courage to stand up for someone that stands up for him. -
Amirs Birthday Party
Babas thoughts on parties, "Babas motto about throwing parties was this: invite the whole world or its not a party"(Hosseini,93). It shows how much power Baba has in the place his is now. Also it shows what people think of baba and that is respect. -
The start of action
After invasion from Soviet, Afghanistan look for help from allies, "...To be traceed to the 1979 invasion by the Soviet Union and the reaction both by Afghan and by their allies in the United States and Pakistan"(NYT, 2). -
The first Soviet Union Troops
As the first Soviet troops to come to Afghan, "The first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul on Dec. 27, 1979" -
The Soviet Soldiers
As Amir and Baba are are trying to get out of the now troublesome Afghanistan they are stopped by a Soviet soldier, " His eyes settles on the young women wearing th eblack shawl. He spoke in Russian to Karim without taking his eyes off her"(Hosseini, 114). This shows how disgusting the soldiers really are, taking a girl for a pass. Also it shows how much power the people of afghanistan have lost. -
Traveling out of Kabul
Trying to leave Kabul as fast as possible Amir feels sick, " Behind me, Baba was apologizing to the other other passengers. As if car sickness was a crime"(Hosseini, 111). Baba is embarresed that his son is sick, because he does not want to show weakness. Also is almost seems like Amir is a disgrace to Baba that Baba doesnt want anything to do with him. -
Fremont, California
As Amir and Baba are in America, "He had been working at a gas station in fremont and had the day off"(Hosseini,127). Baba loses a lot of power from the move to America, it was a very difficult move for him. Also it was proving that Baba is willing to sacrifice himself for Amirs best safety and best doing. -
Gradution
Amir finally gradueted high school in America,"That summer of 1983, I graduated from high school at the age of twenty, by far the oldest senior tossing his mortarboard on the football field that day"(Hosseini,131). His perserverence to graduete from high school made him push through to graduate. Also he wants to impress baba to prove he his intelligent. -
Amirs First Car
Once Amir had turned twenty one Baba had a special gift on his mind,"Baba sold his Buick and bought a dilapidated '71 Volkswagen bus for $550 from an old Afghanistan acquaintance"(Hosseini,137). All Baba wants is to see Amir happy, for Baba is deathly ill. Baba and Amir are cherishing there moments while they can. -
School is going well for Amir
Amir is trying to pursue his writing career," The spring quarter ended in late May of 1985. I aced all of my general educacation clases"(Hosseini,144). It was the best option for Amir and Baba to move to America, for one reason is the better educacation that America has. Also Amir is succeeding in what he loves do to do, which is really important. -

While US supplied rebels with firearms,"After 1986, the Soviet Air Force was also renderd largly useless by advanced Stinger Antiaircraft Missiles supplied by the US to the rebels -
Seeing Hassan for the first time in a long time
Amir has come to see Hassan, because Amir is lonely," He dropped the dough when he saw me. I had to make him stop kissing my hands"(Hosseini,205). Hassan supriselying has stayed loyal still to this day to Amir, and still shows that he loves Amir. Also it shows that Amir is always welcome to Hassan. -
Amir Finishes His First Book
After school in America, and majoring in English, "In the Summer of 1988, about six moth before the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, I finished my first novel"(Hosseini, 182). Amir has pursued his writing career and followed his dream. Also he does what he loves not what Baba wanted him to do. -

After peace talks in 1989," The lost Soviet troops left Afghanistan in Febuary 1989 -
Northern Alliance Comes In
While Rahim Khan and Amir talk, Rahim Khan catches Amir up on whats going on,"Rahim Khan told me how, when the Northern Alliance took over Kabul between 1992 and 1996, different factions claimed different parts of Kabul(Hosseini,199). Afghanistan has become a war zone. It is almost like there are no rukes and terriost groups control everyone. -

Pakistani officials and officers start helping Omar Mullah, "Pakistani intelligence officers began funneling arms, money, and supplies to Mullah Omar's Men, as well as military advisors to help guid them in battle"(NYT,300). -

Help from others, "The Taliban by 1996 had taken control of Afghanistan"(NYT,3). -
The Arrival of Bin Laden
Bin Laden had been seen in public," The Taliban also provideed a haven for Mr. Bin Laden, who arrived by charterd jet at Jalalabad Airport in May of 1996, and for Al Queda"(NYT,3). -
The Call From Rahim Khan
After a life changing phone call from father like figure Rahim Khan, " I lowered the phone into the cradle and stared at it for a long time. It wasnt until Aflatoon startled me with a bark that I realized how quite the room had become"(Hosseini, 900). Amir has mixed emotions about going back to Kabul where some traumitizing scenes had happened. Rahim Khan wants for his last wishes to se Amir come back to Kabul to see Rahim Khan and to atone for his sins. -
Coming Back To the US
After getting Sohrab to come to America they finallly arive,"We arrived home about seventh months ago, on a warm day in August 2001.Soraya picked us up at he airport"(Hosseini, 357). Amir followed up on his promise and atoned for his sins that he committed when he was younger. Amir and Soraya are great people and will do anything to protect Sohrab. -
9/11
After attacks on the twin towers, "Afte rthe attack on the world trade center in New York on September 11, 2001, President Bush gave the Taliban and ultimatem to hand over Mr. Bin Laden"(NYT,3). -
Mr. Karazi as President
Elected as President, "Mr. Karzai was elected to a five-year term as president in 2004"(NYT,3). -
The Last of Hassan and Ali
As Ali and Baba talk about the situation between Hassan and Ali staying, " Life here is impossible for us now, Agha sahib. We're leaving"(Hosseini,106). Even though Baba forgives hassan for "stealing" money and gifts from Amir, Ali does not feel comfortable staying. Amir cause a lot of problems, and it is his fault that Hassan and Ali are leaving.
