  • Baba's Birth

    The year Baba was born and the year Zahir Shah had a 40 year rule over Afghanistan. It is the same year when Baba's father adopted Ali from the Harzara couple that died to a Pashtun attack. (pg.24)
  • Amir's Birth

    Amir is born. Baba and Sofia Akrami were believed to be present. However it is also when Sofia Akrami died.(pg. 6)
  • Hassan's Birth

    One year after Amir's birth, Hassan was born. Ali and Sanubaur were believed to be present.(pg. 6)
  • Baba's break

    Baba took a break from building the orphanage amd travelled to Tehran for a month to watch the World Cup Games. This event first gave Baba the initaitive to try to get his son, Amir, to play soccer. However Amir never successfully played the sport. (pg 20)
  • Amir's Potential

    After completely improvising a story to Hassan. Amir with a new inspiration wrote a story of his own and wanted Baba to read it. However with the absence of Baba, Rahim khan decided to read it instead. (pg. 30-33)
  • Dethronement of Zahir Shah

    Zahir Shah was on a trip, however his cousin Daoud Khan decided to end his 45 year rule with a bloodless coup. A power shift changed the government as the one of the new words that Amir and Hassan hear is "republic" (pg 36-37)
  • Hassan's Violation

    After winning the kite flying tournement, Amir eventually found Hassan in an unfavorable position with Assef and his goons. Amir only watched, as he was too scared to step in. (pg 72 - 77)
  • Amir's Birthday at the Summer of 1976

    Baba threw a birthday party for Amir, inviting many people that Amir didn't know. While his party was a success, Amir only felt worse when he found out Assef came to the party, for Amir's guilt (pg 94 - 97)
  • Soviet Invasion

    It was that day that Russia decided to send in ¨¨The first Soviet Troops parachuted into Kabul on Dec. 27, 1979¨. Many speculate that the Soviet Union came into the country by engineering a coup that allowed the Soviet Troops the ¨free"entry.
  • Baba and Amir Escape

    Baba and Amir take a truck full of other refugees who are escaping to Peshawar. A Russian soldier stops the truck and demands a passing fee, demanding for "a half hour with the lady in the back of the truck" (Pg 115). Baba takes a stand against the soldier and eventually the soldier is called off. (Pg 115 - 117)
  • Kamal's death and his Father's suicide

    Kamal suffocated from the fumes in the gas tank and when the tanker finally arrived to it's destination in the next morning; Kamal was found dead. Kamal's father suddenly went into exteme distress and took Karims gun and killed himself. (pg 123-124)
  • Fremont, California, 1980s

    Baba and Amir move to America, Baba recieved an ulcer. A significant power change slowly shifts from Baba to Amir as Amir started to recieve more attention from Baba. It starts with Baba taking Amir to the bar after Amir graduated high school to celebrate with everyone else who also happened to be at the bar. Baba also gave Amir a car, telling Amir that he can use this for college. The activities that Baba has been doing for and with Amir signifies that Baba wants Amir to grow on his own -Pg.132
  • The Flea Market Business

    Baba and Amir scan local papers for garage sales on Saturdays, where they bought small items and resold it at the flea market. This is where Baba eventually met General Taheri and Amir met the General's daughter; Soraya. (pg 137-140)
  • Baba's Death

    Shortly after Amir married Soraya and Soraya moved in with Baba and Amir. Baba died to his cancer that he refused to get treatment for. (pg. 173 - 174)
  • Amir's New Career

    Amir finished his first novel using the typewriter that the General gave him. Amir eventually revieced a request from the New York Agency. The excitement increases as person named Martin Greenwalt decided to reprsent Amir as an Agent. Of course there is celebration as Martin informs Amir that he is a published novelist. (pg 182- 183)
  • ?? Feb 1989

    Once the Islams managed to eradicate the last of the semi-welcomed visitors, Afganistan eventually "become(s) a beacon to Islamic Extremists from across the globe who had come to assist in the fighting,"
  • Mullah Omar

    A pashtun that lead a group to assualt the group of warlords. After that assualt he eventually "had nearly 12,000 followers snd was rolling up the warloards to the north and east".
  • ?? May 1996

    Escorting Mr. bin Laden, who arrived in Jalalabad, the Al Queda members persuaded "Mullah Omar to order the destruction of the 800-year-old Buddha statues at Bamiyan,"
  • Amir's Trip

    A call reaches Amir that Rahim Khan, Baba's good friend and business partner, is sick. Amir decides to tell Soraya that he is leaving her to take a trip to see a sick family friend. He finally meets Rahim and they talk about the Taliban, Hassan, and other topics. (Pg- 195- 198)
  • Hassan's Discovered Death

    When the topic of Hassan reaches to Amir and Rahim Khan. Amir wanted to know if Hassan was still there in Baba's house. Rahim gave Amir a series of letters written by Hassan to tell Amir how life was for Hassan. Shortly later, Rahim tells Amir that Hassan and Hassan's wife, Farzana, were murdered by the Taliban. (pg 218-219)
  • Operation 9-11

    Al Queda lead an assualt on the World Trade Center of New York. After the attack "Bush gave the Taliban an ultimatum to hand over Mr. bin Laden. When it refused, the United states joined forces with rebel groups that never accepted Taliban rule". Resulting in the Taliban and Al Queda's retreat to the Tora-Bora.
  • The Promotion of Hamid Karzai

    Being someone who is blood related and a strong supporter of the exiled king,"Hamid Karzai...replaced the defeated Taliban, making him the leader of the country,"
  • 2001 - 2008 (post 9-11)

    Although they were defeated, the Taliban were determined to come back. "The Taliban continued to wage a guerrilla warfare from a base...Their rise was assisted by a resurgent opium trade, which helped to fill the group's coffers,"
  • General Petraeus

    A commander who came from Iraq "recieved much of the credit for the success of the surge there, had taken charge of United States Central Command,"
  • Troop Deployment

    At West Point, the President Obama "announced his plan to deploy 30,000 additional troops. He vowed to start bringing American forces home from Afganistan in the middle of 2011,"
  • McChrystal's removal

    After making some fairly regrettable quotes with his staff "about senior administration officials... Obama removed Gen. McChrystal and his staff"
