Amir had ignored helping Hassan situation for pride because Baba in Amir's eyes is not prideful towards him so that is why Amir takes any chance he gets to find pride from baba.

    While challenging Hassan Amir asks, "' Eat dirt if I told you to" and Hassan responded "'If you asked, I would"' (Hosseini 54. This quotation shows that Hassan would do anything for Amir. This can be proven when he responds if you ask I would shows that Hassan lets Amir walk all over him.
  • Amir puts money under Wihid's matress

    While trying to atone by eating Wihid's kid's food, Amir had thought, "Earlier that morning, when I was certain no one was looking, I did something I had done twenty-six years earlier: I planted a fistful of crumpled money under a mattress." (Hosseini 254) This quote shows that resembling what he had done to hassan a long time ago he is doing now but for a different cause. This is shown when he did it for hassan it was negative but for the kids it was positive

    While trying to get Hassan caught, "I lifted Hassan's mattress and planted my new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it. I waited another thirty minutes. Then I knocked on Baba's door and told what I hoped would be the last in a long line of shameful lies." (Hosseini 104) This quotation shows that Amir was guilty of saying of lies but had to do it order to get his pride from Baba. It shows that he is guilty when he says he hopes that those will be the last lies he will ever say.
  • Amir meats Soraya

    While at the flea market with Baba,"'Thank you,' I said. 'Oh, and my name is Amir. In case you need to know. So you can tell him. That I stopped by. To . . . pay, my respects'" (Hosseini 146) This piece of evidence illustrates his nervousness towards Soraya and her father. He is nervous because he is trying to show respect and kindness and he also likes her and doesn't want to start on the wrong foot with her or her father.
  • Assef beats up Amir

    While Assef is beating up Amir, "The sound of my ribs snapping like the tree branches Hassan and I used to break to swordfight like Sinbad in those old movies" (Hosseini 288). This quotation shows that instead of trying to ask for help he just brought back memories of him and Hassan. By bringing memories, he was showing that he was not in Hassan shoes when he was being rapped.
  • Amir repeats Hassan words to Sahrab

    While in San Fransico Park, "'For you, a thousand times over'" (Hosseini 371). This quotation shows him finally showing atonement towards Hassan by showing he will protect his son. This can be shown in the text where he states what Hassan had said 15 years ago and he uses it toward to show atonement towards him and to remember him.
  • Amir finds Assef

    While looking for Assef, "But he was already here, in the flesh, sitting less than ten feet from me, after all these years. His name escaped my lips: 'Assef'" (Hosseini 28) This quotation shows that when Amir had found Assef he was suprised and didn't know what to say. In the text, this is shown when he says it slipped out of his lips and never believed that he would seem again after he left to America.
  • Amir finds Sahrab in the bathtub surrounded by blood

    When Amir opens the door to the bathroom, "I pushed the door open. Stepped into the bathroom. Suddenly I was on my Knees, screaming." (Hosseini 343) This piece of evidence explains that Amir was petrified when he had seen Sahrab in the Bathroom. When he had seen he had felt like his atonement was just pulled out from underneath him and he was back where he was with another promblem that he had let something negative happen to Sahrab.
  • Hassan gets rapped by Assef

    While Assef was rapping Hassan, "'It's just a Hazara'" (Hosseini 75). This shows the disrespect Assef has towards Hassan and just treats him like a piece of garbage. In the text, Assef refer to him as it not he which show that he has no respect for him because he Hazara which Assef thought of as equal to a donkey.
  • Baba gets diagnosed with cancer

    While Amir and Baba were at the Doctor Office, they found out Baba had cancer and this was Amir reaction, "It turned out that, like Satan, cancer had many names. Baba'swas called 'Oat Cell Carcinoma.' Advanced" (Hosseini 156). This identifies that Amir had taken this as a knife to the chest and this really hurt. This had really hurt him because through their father-son relationship Amir had felt like there weren't a lot of moments where Amir felt baba was proud of him.
  • Amir finds out Hassan died

    While Rahim Khan was telling Amir about Hassan, Amir had found out this, "'No' I breathed.' and ordered him to kneel' 'No. God, no.' 'and shot him in the back of the head'" (Hosseini 219). This quotation shows that he was saddened and surprised at Hassan death. This showed in dug deep into his skin that he died because Amir had never atoned his wrong while Hassan was alive.
  • Amir finds out Hassan is his half brother

    When Amir had found about Hassan being his Baba's son, he had said this, " There is only one sin. And that is theft ... When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. Hadn't he said those words to me?" (Hosseini 225). This example indicates, that Amir had found out he was surprised and angry at his father. He was angry at his father because he lied to for his whole life about life and amir thinks of himself as stupid for never seeing it by the way he treated Hassan.
  • Baba forgives Hassan

    When in a meeting with Hassan, Ali, and Baba, Amir had heard, "Except Baba stunned me by saying, 'I forgive you'" (Hosseini 105) This surprised Amir and made him angry because he had thought that Baba would never forgive Hassan because Baba would've never forgiven Amir if he was in that situation. Also, Amir was sad because Baba treats Hassan as his more adored son compared to Amir.
  • Amir witness the massacre

    While Amir and Farid where at the stadium they saw, "'WE SHALL THROW THE STONES BACK!' He shut off the microphone. A low-pitched murmur spread through the crowd. Next to me. Farid was shaking his head. 'And they call themselves Muslims,' he whispered" This showed that Amir was surprised he was watching something so violent and disagreed to what was happening. He had disagreed with the text because he had felt by throwing stones in front of a crowd at two people is not okay to do to someone.
