While discussing his father, Amir writes, " In the year 1933, the year Baba was born..." (24). Baba was born into a time where a new leader was starting his reign. The fact that he only new one leader for most of his life shaped the way he saw politics in Afghanistan.

Amir writes, " It was in that small shack that Hassan's mother, Snaubar, gave birth to him one cold winter day" (6). Hassan was born on the property of Baba and became Amir servsnt soon after. This was the start of their lives.

When Amir is discussing his father, he writes, "Baba had personally funded the entire project..." (13). The fact that he was responsible for the building of the whole orphanage shows that Baba has lots of ambition. It also shows that when Baba wants something done he will make sure it happens.

When writing about this event Amir says, " In 1970, Baba took a break from the construction of the orphanage and flew to Tehran for a month to watch the World Cup games on television." (20). The fact that he flew to Thran shows that when Baba wants to do something he does it. Even though Afghanistan didin't have televison he found a way to overcome this.

After he wins the kite running, Amir writes, " I would make a grand entrance, a hero, prized trophy in my bloodied hands" (67). This was the first time he knew Baba would be proud of him. Since he really wants to please Baba he is looking forward to that moment where he gives Amir approval.

While watching the attack Amir says that, "Assef yelped as he flung himself at Hassan, knocking him to the ground." (73). This was the end of Hassn and Amirs relationship. This event also caused Amir to live with guilt for many years.

After trying to play a trick on Hassan by telling him a story that he made up, Hassan said to Amir, " That was the best story you've read me in a long time." (30). The fact that Hassan liked his story gave Amir the idea that he might be good at thinking up stories This gave him the confidence to write a story on his own.

After telling a story to Hassan, Amir writes, " that same night, I wrote my first short story." (30). This was when he and his family and friends first realized his skill of writing . This moment led him to a career in writing.

After hearing on the radio of the coup, Amir writes, " they were saying the word republic over and over again" (37). Amir and Hassan do not know what this means but they know it will change their lives. This is the first time they learn about what will be happening to Afghanistan.

After calling Hassan in to see his present, Baba said, " I have summoned Dr. Kumar from New Delhi." (45) This is the first time that Amir became jealous of Hassan. He is jealous because he feels Baba treats Hassan like a son.

After hearing the doctors diagnosis, Amir said, " What about me Baba? What am I supposed to do?" (156). This is the first time Amir thinks about what he will do when Baba dies. This is also the first time he shows emotion in front of his father.

After Amir talks to Soroya at the hospital, Amir says to Baba, "I want you to ask General Taheri for his daughter's hand." (161). This event brings joy to Baba even after he is diagnosed with cancer. It also is the first step towards Amir and Soroya starting their life together.

While speaking with Amir, Rahim Khan says, "There were a lot of reasons I went to Hazarajat to find Hassan in 1986" (203). If Rahim Khan did not find Hassan Amir would have never went to find Sohrab. He would also never had gotten the chance to atone for what he did to Hassan.

While at the Airport, Amir says, " Soroya picked us up at the airport. I had neverbeen away from Soroya for so long" (357). This is the first experience that SOhrab has in America. At this point Amir does not know how Sohrab will react to a new environment.

Bin Laden leads "the attack on the world trade center on Sept 11. 2001" (3).

After the U.S. invaded he " was named chairman of the interim government" (3).

After Soahrab and Amir win the kite running competition, Amir writes, " I looked down at Sohrab. One corner of his mouth had curled up just so." (370). This was te first time Sohrab showed signs of happiness. This event gave Amir hope that Sohrab will someday live a happy life.
