Hassan is violated
After winning the kite contest, Hassan went to retrieve the kite and when amir came later he saw "Hassan's brown corduroy pants thrown on a heap of eroded bricks" (75). This shows how Amir and Hassan's friendship is weakining because Amir "stopped watching and turned away from the alley."(77) When this occurs it is shown how Hassan and Amir are trully seperated as friends. This also gives Assef power over Amir because of the guilt Amir faces when he fled the scene -
Ali and Hassan leave
After getting accused for stealing Ali told Baba "We are leaving Agha sahib." (106) After the devestating event Hassan faced with Assef and being accused for robbery they needed to leave. Altough, when Baba got on his knees and begged them to stay Ali gained power over him as they left. -
Soviet invasion
"The extremism can be traced to the soviet invasion in 1979" at which point the Al Queda group began to form. -
Amir and Baba leave Afghanistan
When the russians invade Afghanistan, Amir leaves "in athe tarpaulin-covered cab of an old Russian truck." (110) This shows the reader that Amir and Baba leave Afghanistan . They left because there was nothing left for them in Afghanistan. -
Amir Graduates from high school
In 1983, Amir says I can now begin my life here"(131)This is a big accomplishment because he came from Afghanistan. This gives Amir many more paths he can take in his life in America -
Ali is killed
Hassan told Amir,"Aliand his cousin had been killed by a land mine."(206) When Amir heard what happened it makes Amir extremely sad. It also makes the the meal much more solemn because of the news. -
Amir meets Soraya
In 1984 Amir describes her as"decent, hardworking, and kinnd girl."(142)Once Amir met Soraya, he knew he was in love. The thought of her kept him up all night long. -
Amir and soraya get married
At the wedding Amir wispered to soraya for the first time, "I love [you}. This allowed Amir to be able to move past his life in Afghanistan. Amir's marrige makes him wonder if Hassan is married and has him reminising about his actions when with Hassan. -
Baba dies
When Baba passes Soraya says "I'm going to miss him." (176) WWhen Baba dies many people show there love by telling Amir all the good things he had done in his life. This made Amir realize he needed to find his own way and it terrified him -
Amir's book is accepted
In the summer of 1988, "Martin Greenwalt called from New York and offered to represent me."(183) This gave Amir hope that his novel would be published. This makes him and soraya extremely joyful because Amir's voice will be heard. -
Soviets leave Afganistan
"After peace talks by the United nations the last soviet troops left" thus ending the war between the two -
Sanaubar returns
In 1990 a mysterious woman said to Hassan,"You smiled as you are now when you came out of me."(210)This made Amir and Hassan know that it was Sanaubar. Nobody had seen her since she left after Hassan had been born -
Sohrab is born
In the winter of 1990 Hassan's son was born,"They named him Sohrab."(211) This makes Amir extremely happy for Hassan. It allows them to get closer once again as friends because of Sohrab -
Al Queda leader 12000 followers
"By the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had 12000 foolowers" so the Al Queda group promised a cleener Islamic religion followed Omar. -
Taliban takeover
Because of the Pakastinians help "the taliban by 1996 had taken over Afghanistan." So once again they had controll. -
Hassan dies
After protesting the Talibs,"they took him to the street and shot him in the back of the head."(219) This makes Amir wish he could have been with Hassan to help. This event makes him remember Hassan's harelip surgery in Afghanistan where he and Baba waited for him to wake from recovery. -
Rahim calls Amir
Rahim Khan calls Amir and it wasn't just hm,"it was all of [his] past sins."(1) This foreshadows how Amir will commit major sins tht still haunt him today. This gives the reader an oppurtunity to try and figure out what he did. -
9/11 Terrorist Attack
On 9/11 "the world trade center was attacked" by the group Al Queda led by Osama Bin Laden. -
US in Afghanistan
"The US has been military involved in Afghanistan since 2001" because of the 911 terrorist attacks. -
Invasion Success
In 2001 the "invasion succeeded in disloging Al Queda from power in Afganistan. However, they were not eradicated. -

After the Taliban lost its power Karzai "became the leaderr of the country". However he is a supporter and relative of the former leader -
Amir and Sohrab fly the kite
In the rain Sohrab "took the string from my hands" said Amir(369)This shows how he has become like Amir's son. It makes their bond unbreakable. -

"The Iraq commander who recieved much of the credit for the surge." had come to lead troops in Afghanistan -
Obama announces plans
The president announces "his plan to deploy 30,000 troops" in Afghanistan until 2014.
