  • Amir Frames Hassan

    Since Amir can no longer handle the guilt from not helping Hassan, he decides it woul be better for Hasan and Ali to leave. Amir frames Hassan by planting his, "new watch and a handful of Afghani bills under it" (104).
  • Hassan and Ali Leave

    Hassan lies and says that he stole Amir's money and watch, and tries to protect Amir. This causes Ali and Hassan to decide to leave the house and quit their job. When Baba was denied by Ali when he refused to stay, "he cried" (107), which was a suprise because Amir had never seen his father cry.
  • Hassan Gets Raped By Assef

    After the the kite tournament in 1975, Amir, "saw Hassan run a kite for the last time" (55). While running the kite Assef and his two friends corner Hassan and violate him. Amir witnesses this, but is to scared to intervene.
  • Amir Turns Thirteen

    In 1976, the summer Amir turned thirteen, was, "Afghanistan's next to last summer of peace and anonymity" (93). At this time Baba and Amir had a good realationship.
  • End of Peace

    Afghanistan was invaded by the Soviet Union and , "has known little peace since 1979."
  • Al Queda Attack

    Since the United States had been involved with Afghanistan there were, "Sept. 11 attacks by the Al Queda" in the US.
  • First parachutes

    On December 27th, 1979, "the first Soviet troops parachuted into Kabul."
  • Baba and Amir Leave Kabul

    On March 2nd in 1975, bab and Amir, 'left Kabul at two in the morning" (110). Kabul was under attack forcing them to leave on a bus with many other Afghans.
  • Baba and Amir Reach California

    During the 1980s, Baba and Amir moved to Fremont, California. Unlike Amir, Baba only," loved the "idea" of America" (124).
  • Baba Gets Into A Fight

    In the Spring of 1983, Baba realizes the hardships of living n America. He fights with the owners of a store when they ask for his ID, because he thinks they are accusing him of being a theif. Amir explains that his, "father was going through a diificult time" (128).
  • Amir Meets The General And His Daughter

    In the summer of 1984, Amir meets General Taheri and Soraya for the first time while running his stand in the flea market. Baba can sense that Amir is interested in Soraya, so Baba tells him, "All I've heard is that there was a man once," (141) and things didn't go well.
  • Soviet Airforce is Renedered Useless

    The United States rebels supplied the Soviet Air Force which useless antiaircraft missiles which made the Air force, "renedered largely useless."
  • Soraya and Amir Get Married

    Amir asks Baba to ask Soraya's father if Amir could have her hand in marriage. The General says yes. Since it was a tradition for the father of the groom to pay for the wedding, "Baba spent 35,000 dollars," of his life savings on the wedding.
  • Baba Dies

    A month after the wedding, Baba passing away while he is sleeping. Amir is terrified, and says he is scared since, 'Baba couldn't show him the way anymore" (174).
  • Amir Comes Out With His First Book

    During the summer of 1988, Amir came out with his first book. The book was then discoverd six weeks later, which started his writing career. This brought back memories of Rahim Khan telling him, "you will be a great writer" (183).
  • Soviet troops leave

    The United Nations moderated peace talks and then, "the last Soviet troops left Afghanistan in February 1989." They left the country devastated.
  • Sohrab Is Born

    During the Winter of 1990, "it was Sanaubar who delivered Hassan's son" (211). Both Sanaubar and Hassan treasured and loved the baby, Sohrab, more than anything.
  • Amir and Soraya Cannot Have Kids

    After many tries, Amir and Soraya knwo that they are unable to have kids. Soraya explains to her parents, '"the doctor said we could adopt,"(186) but both Soraya and Amir agree that they don't want to.
  • Mullah Omar Starts Attack Group

    Mullah Omar, a pashtun who created the group's dirst acttack and, "by the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and East."
  • Taliban Take Over

    The Tailban now control Afghanistan and the Islamic Law was enforced, which caused, "banning movies and music and forcing women out of schools and into all-enveloping burqa clothing."

  • Mr. Bin Laden Arrives

    A haven is provided by the Tailvan, "for Mr. Bin Laden, who arrived by chartered jet at Jalalabad Airport in May 1996, and for Al Qaeda."
  • Rahim Calls Amir

    Amir is shocked when he gets a call from his old friend Rahim Khan, saying that he is sick. Amir tells Soraya, "I have to go to Pakistan" (191). He tells her that he will be safe, and that he has to go because Rahim Khan had made a big imapct on his life.
  • Amir Brings Sohrab To America

    Amir brings ohrab back to America, and is reunited ith Soraya. Once he finally got to hug her, "I realized how much I had missed her," (357) he explained. Soraya is delighted to meet Sohrab, but he just stares at his feet when she tries to greet him.
  • Al Queda Attack the US

    The military in the United States has been involved with Afghanistan since, "the Sept. 11 attacks by Al Queda."
  • Mr. Karzai Joins Office

    In June of 2002 Mr. Karzai took office as interim president saying, "he hoped to seure peace for Afghanistan and win the country much-needed international aid."
