  • Amir's grandma

    Amir descibres his living room and says,"Inside sat framed family pictures:an old, grainy photo of my grandmother and King Nadir Shah taken in 1931,"(5). Amir's grandma was very wealthy considering the fact she was in a picture with the king. This shows how Amir was born into wealth.
  • Baba was born

    "In the year 1933, the year Baba was born and the year Zahir Shah began his 40 year reign of Afghanastan," (24). Baba lived his life in Kabul under the rule of Zahir. Zahir kept control of Kabul for 40 years without war. When Zahir wasn't king anymore the Kabul kind of fell apart.
  • Hassan gets surgery

    Amir talks about Hassan and says, "I kept thinking of that day in 1974, in the hospital room, just after Hassan's harelip surgery, "(219). Amir feels very bad that Hassan was teased badly for his weird lip. He was thinking about it because he always feels guilty for everything bad that happened to Hassan.
  • Amir became what he is today

    Amir has a flashback in the begining of the book and says, "I became what I am today at the age of 12, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975," (1). Amir became what he is today when he was 12 because that was the day he saw Hassan get violated. He didn't stand up for Hassan that day and lived his life regretting that he didn't.
  • Before there wasn't peace

    Before Ali and Hassan quit working for Baba, Amir said,"I turned 13 that summer of 1976, Afghanistan's next to last summer of peace," (93). Afganstasn didn't have peace because the taliban took over. The taliban taking over caused many wars.
  • American forces withdraw from Afghanistan

    Even though American combat forces were called for, "forces begin withdrawing from Afganastan in the summer of 2011," (The New York Times 1).
  • Soviet Union Invades

    The article stated that,"There has been little peace since 1979, when the Soviet Union invaded," (New York Times(1) "The First Soviet Union troops parachuted into kabul Dec. 27, 1979," (2).
  • US announces they would boycott

    Amir said," In 1980 when we were still in Kabul, the US announced it would be boycotting the Olympic Games in moscow." (126). When baba heard that he was very mad. Soon after that Baba and Amir go to America which is quit intresting because the US didn't seam to like Afghan's anyways.
  • Amir graduates high school

    When Amir was living in Fremont California he said, "That summer of 1983 I graduated from high school at the age of twenty," (131).He graduates at a very old age from highs school. That was becasue he didnt go to high school when he lived in Kabul.
  • Amir gets a car

    A year after Amir graduates from high school he wrote,"The summer of 1984-the summer I turned 21-Baba sold his buik and bought a bilapidated '71 Volkswagen bus for $550," (137). He graduates from high school in Fremont, California that year. Since Baba sold his old car it shows he would do anything for Amir and is very caring towards him at this part in the book.
  • Amir goes to find Hassan

    Amir said when going leaving California for a little bit, "There were a lot of reasons why I went to hazarajat to find Hassan in 1986," (203). Amir feels guilty still from when they were 12 years old. he feels so bad that he wants to go see Hassan.
  • Amir's finishes writing his first book

    In California at Amir and Sorya's house Amir said," In the Summer 1988, about 6months before the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan, I finsished my first novel," (182). He finsihed his first novel and got it published soon after that summer. This is important because his writing brings him longways in America.
  • Peace comes beteween Afganastan and The Soviet Union

    The article stated that, "The last Soviet Union troops left Afganastan in Febuary 1989, in what was in effect a unilateral withdrawl," (New York Times 2).
  • Mullah's men gain money and supplies

    The article stated that, "As early as 1994, pakistani intelligence officers began funneling arms, money, and supplies to Mullah Omar's men," (3).
  • Warlords and fiefdoms try to take over

    The article stated that, "by the summer of 1994, power was anarchically divided amoung competing warlords and indivisual fiefdoms," (2).
  • Mullah gains followers

    The article stated that, "by the end of 1994 Mullah Omar had nearly 12,000 followers and was rolling up the warlords to the north and east," (New York Times 3).
  • Taliban takes over afghanistan

    The article stated that, " The taliban by 1996 had taken control of Afghanistan," (New York Times 3).
  • Taliban

    Amir said,"I told you how we celebrated in 1996 when the Taliban rolled in," (213). The Taliban made Hassan very scared because he was a Hazara. Hazara's had an easier chance of getting killed in the war.
  • taliban bands kite racing

    After Amir talks about how the taliban gained control he said, "A few weeks later, the Taliban banned kite fighting," (213). This was very sad point in the book because the kite racing was a main aspect of the book. It was also Hassan's specialty so it was very dpressing that he wouldnt be able to race again.
  • Massacre

    After Amir talks about Rahim telling him about the taliban taking over he says, And two years later, in 1998, they massacred the Hazaras in Mazar-i-Sharif," (213). Rahim tells him about how Hassan was in big trouble because the taliban wanting to kill the Hazaras. In the end Amir finds out Hassan and him are brothers so Hassan isn't actually a Hazara.
  • Amir brings home Sohrab

    Amir said, "We arrived home on a warm day in augast 2001," (357). Amir his wife and hassan's son Sohrab get on an airplaine. They bring Sohrab back to their house in Fremont, California.
  • 9/11 Attack on the World Trade Center

    The article states that "After the attack on the World Trade Center in New York on Sept. 11, 2001, President George W. Bush gave the taliban an ultimatum to hand over Mr. bin Laden." (new York Times pg3).
  • Hamid becomes leader

    The article stated that, " In december 2001, hamid karzai...replaced the defeated taliban, making him the leader of the country," (New York Times 3).
  • Obama sends troops

    The article stated that, "In a speech delivered Dec 1st, 2009 at West Point, Mr. Obama announced his plan to deploy 30,000 additional troops," (New York Times 4).
  • USA boycotts olympics in Moscow

    Amir said, 'In 1980 when we were still living in Kabul the announced it would be boycotting the Olympic games in Moscow," (126)
