The Khmer Enpire begins in Cambodia. THe Khmer epmire started in the 5th century. The was evidence that the Khmers traded with the Indians in the 5th century.

Jayavarman II unifies the smaller states to create one large empire. In 802, Jayavarman II is then enthroned as devaraja (God-King).

Suryavarman II commences the construction of Angkor Wat. The temple was dedicated to the Hindu God, Vishnu. The temple finished construction in 1150 and was a city.

Jayavarman II defeats the Chams from Hcampa and expands the emipre to its furthest extent to Laos, Thailand and Burma. He thens expands the empire to its fullest extent to Laos, Thailand and Burma.

The Bayon was built during the reign of Jayavarman VII from 1189 to 1219. The Bayon was the last temple to be constructed by the khmer Empire. It is dominated by five towers and carvings of King Jayavarman VII.

Before Jayavcarman VII, Buddhism was the main religion. Jayavarman VII renounces Buddhism orders that Buddhist temples and images to be destroyed and that Hinduism becomes the main religion.

The last Khmer king to use Angkor Wat as the capital abandoned it and thern Phnom Penh became the capital.The jungle then takes over Angkor Wat.

The Khmer Empire is deafeated at Phnom Penh in 1594 by the Siamese. The Khmer king is deafeated and the Siamese take over the land.

The Vietnamese armies continue to attack the khmers until they are defeated. The Khmer Empire was defeated in the 17th century.

King Yasovarman I suceeded Indravarman and moved the capital and named the city after himself, Yasodharapura which becomes the first city of Angkor.

Jayavarman III was the sucessor of Jayavarman Ii. Jayavarman created the irrigation network , which helped to grow rice. He loved to hunt elephants and died doing so. His sucessor was Indravarman.
