Ankor Wat was built and king Suryavarman II dedicated it to the Hindu God, Vishnu. This took 32 years and over 50,000 people helped to do this. Ankor Wat is in Cambodia and is a vey large temple.

The Cham kingdom and the Thais in the west launched a series of wars against the Khmer Empire.They both succeeded in pushing the boundaries of the Khmer Empre back. During this period Buddhism grew in popularity and Buddhism did not recongnise that any ruler had a "divine right" to rule. So the authority of the King was questioned.

The Khmer rulers moved the capital to Phenom Penh due to the attack from the Thais and the Chams.

The Siam king attacked the Khmer Empire and the empire becomes kingdom to Siam. The Empire was able to defend itself until this date.

The vietnamese attacks and shares increasing control over Khmer Empire with Siam. The Thias looted the temples and took many iteams, including Buddha images, gold, jewels and slaves back to the Thai capital.

Jayavaraman II was enthroned under Hindu rites as devaraja. Devaraja was a "God King" who had a divine right to rule. Jayavaraman II also established the Khmer Monarchy.

King Jayavaraman II died and was succeeded by his son, Jayavaraman III.
