The Battle of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. The famous "Shot heard around the World" was fired there. The British won the battle of Lexington, but the American's won the battle of Concord using gurrilea warfare. -

British General Howe left Boston and headed to New York. There the British were engaged in a battle with Americans out numering them 5 to 1. The British won the battle and later took control of New York until 1783. This was a crushing defeat for the patriots as it looked as if the war may be lost. -

The Battle of Trenton was a suprise attack lead by George Washington. Washington crossed the Delaware river at night in a snow storm and attacked 14,000 Hessian soldiers. No colonists died in the victory and they captured 900 Hessian soldiers. This victory lead to a morale boost in the patriot army. -

The Battle of Saratoga was an Ameican victory. The British planned to cut New England off from the Middle and Southern Colonies. But that plan failed as General Burgoyne (britian) surrendered to the Americans after being surrounded. After the Battle of Saratoga, the French government recognizes the US as its own country and begins to form and alliance with the partriots. French King Louis XVI , Marquis de Lafayette, George Washington and others from the Continential Congress reached an alliance that allowed the US to trade and recieve support from France in return they would recognize them as a country. -
siege of yorktown
General Cornwallis surrenders to the patriot army amid the attacks and blockaid by the Americans and the French. The surrender ultimatley forces Britian to work out an end to the war with the United States that ends the war.
