Missouri Compromise
Missouri would be a slave state. MAine would be a free state. IMaginary line stateing that states above theis line will not have slavery. -
compromise of 1850
California would be admitted as a free state. Utah and New Mexico territories could decide to be slave states. Slave trade in Washington D.C ended.Fugitive slave law was forced into passage making the north have to return slaves. -
kansas nebraska act
Missouri compromised was abolished. Settlers had to vote on whether Kansas and Nebraska would be slave or free states. North thought slavery was going to come across the plains. This caused the north people to flood into Kansas. Southern people from kansas attacked a town, burned buildings and tosed a printing press into a river. Northerners decided to attack men involved and multiple people suspected of being involved -
Dree Scott case
Dred Scott tried to become a free man. The court said no black man could be an American citizen and that his stay in Wisconsin did not make him a free man. This made North furious because this showed that slavery might not ever end. -
Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln was elected by Republicans. With the north south and the southern south split their votes. In the end lincoln was elected president. Now the south was the minority. -
Attack on Ft. Sumter
Conferates opened fire on Ft. Sumter. After 33 hours the people defending the fort took down the Flag and hosted up the flag of surrender. The north knew this meant going to war since the south attacked the nations colors.
