  • UN plan to partition Palestine

    UN plan to partition Palestine
    • the plan was to make two different states for the Jews and Palestinians by dividing Palestine into two regions -The Palestinians didn't like that because some of them had to leave there homes and jobs
    • thus causing the conflict to escalate between the two groups
    • this is essintially the spark of the conflict

  • Arab/Israeli War

    • both Arabs and Jews claim the right to control in the small area of Palestine
    • this war is strongly based off of the two groups religious beliefs
    • the war lasted 9 months 3 weeks and 2 days
    • The war started in the Middle East between Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon

    • The Arab-Isreal war established the state of Isreal as an independent state -The day before the expiration of the British Mandate, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, declared "the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel
    • after they declare independence six different Arab states invade the new state
    • Jews got 75% of Palistine

    • It was an invasion of Isreal, Britain and France into Egypt to gain control of the Suez Canal
    • part of the reason the crisis started was because of tensions between Britain and Egypt
    • it sparks the creation of the PLO
    • This canal is very important to Egypt because it is one of the most poular one and if it is blocked they looselots of money

  • Formation of PLO

    • The organization was created to represent the Palestinian people
    • they very first act was an attack on Isreal's National Water Carrier -it is made up of mostly Palestinian refugees
    • Isreal saw the PLO as a threat because they took up violent attack on their soilders and civilians

    • The war was fought between June 5th and June 10th
    • The Israelis defend the war as a primitive military effort to counter what they saw as an impending attack by the Arab nations.
    • The war was initiated by the Israelis
    • The war was against Syria, Jordan , and Egypt

  • Yom Kippur War

    • It is called the Yom Kippur War because it was fought during the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur
    • The war was fought with Egypt and Syria on one side and Isreal on the other
    • Egypt and Syria decided to attack that day because they knew the troops would be celebrating the Yom Kippur
    • The US supported Isreal and the Soviet Union supported Rgypt and Syri

  • Lebanon War

    Lebanon War
    • A Palestinian terror group attempts to assassinate Shlomo Argov
      • Isreal Defence forces invaded southern Lebanon so that they could push armed forces up North
    • The participants were America, PLO, Isreal, and Palstien
    • More that 18,000 civilians died during this war

  • Oslo Accords

    • It was based off of the Camp David Accords -It includes 17 articles and 4 anexes
    • The parties involved were the PLO, Israeli Government, American Government, and the Norwegians
    • It began with the Madrid Conference in 1991 but wasnt signed until 1993 in Washington D.C
