Calligraphy is religious in content and it is an art from that is very important in the Chine and Islamic cultures. Once the Islamic culture shifted towards written rather then spoken words Calligraphy became more and more popular.

The Tang dynasty was led into China by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas and his embassy who was sent by Uthman. Uthman ibn Affan was a son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.The Tang dynasty lasted from 618-907.

This is said to be the oldest mosque in China and was built by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas. This Mosque is located in Guangdong China. Huaisheng was later rebuilt in 1350 and again in 1695 because of a fire that destroyed it.

The Song dynasty lasted from 960-1279 and was founded by Zhao Kuangyin who was a general of the state. Once the Song dynasty moved its capital to the south it brought advanced culture and an economic boom to the south.
