Inventors/Innovators Timeline

  • James Watt-Steam Engine

A heat engine that performs mechanical work using steam as its fluid. It can also be moved anywhere but is very heavy.Today, all new steam engines are steam turbines, which are used mainly in power generating plants and ships.
  • John Kay-Flying Shuttle

It was a machine that automatized weaving, it required two weavers by passing the shuttle through the threads by hands. Even though it made things faster, it can be tiring and many people lost their jobs. Some Flying Shuttles are still used today, along with other more modern inventions. Also, automatic spinning equipment was later made The Flying Shuttle
  • James Hargreaves-Spinning Jenny

A machine that spins the cotton for weaving this made faster delivery speed, low yarn production costs, and etc. Though it has a tendency to snarl and it would be difficult to keep it spinning for long periods of time. I don't think the spinning jenny is used today.
  • Richard Arkwright-Water Frame,Spinning Frame

A machine that spins threads or yarn from fibers such as wool or cotton while power by a water frame. A machine that generates power through water. It made a lot of though yarn and is quicker than weaving but the yarn was not a fine as the spinning jenny's. No longer active
  • Samuel Crompton-Spinning Mule

A large multiple-spindle spinning machine that produced high quality thread. It was better than the Spinning jenny's but it was huge and can be very hard to handle. It is not used today
  • Robert Fulton-Steamboat

A boat powered by steam. People had to rely on the wind or do it themselves to move the boat. The steamboat was faster but was also dangerous due to boiler explosions. They in fact are still used today. They are used with a nuclear powered engine instead.
  • George Stephenson and Richard Tervithick-Steam locomative

A railway locomotive that produces its power through the steam engine. This made transportation easier but the steam engine had low efficiency. It is used today in trains I think.
  • Henry Bessemer-Manufacturing Of Steel

Steel is a hard, strong, gray alloy of iron and the Bessermer Process mad making steel easy. Steel is better than iron but the making of steel was dangerous. We still us it to build stuff
  • Louis Pasteur-Pasteurization

The process of heating food and a liquid to kill bacteria. Your food is clean but I don't think this works on every food. We still boil water to clean it
  • Thomas Edison-LightBulb

An object that produces light through electric. It replaced lanterns and provided light but if it breaks glass gets everywhere. We always have light just imagine las vegas
  • Nikola Tesla-Tesla coil

A machine that produces electricity without any wires. It can raise your hair which is cool but it can be dangerous if the electricity hit you. Today it is a high frequency alternating current and electrotherapy.
