  • Cotton Gin

    Invented by Eli Whitney in Georgia on August 31,1793. Cotton gin consisted of a hand crank and two grooved rollers. It was able to turn out five times as more cotton in a day, compared to picking seeds by hand. In only five years, the cotton gin tripled cotton production in the United States
  • Telegraph

    Developed by Samuel Morse in 1844 in Washington D.C. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. The telegraph revolutionized long-distance communication.
  • Machine Gun

    Developed by Dr. Richard Gatling in Indiana on November 10,1862. The common machine gun at the time consisted of six barrels that rotated around a central axis by a hand crank. Used in the Civil War, increased the fire rate of weapons and the number of casualties.
  • Light Bulb

    In 1879, Thomas Alva Edison discovered a filament with the right materials to glow for long periods of time. In oreder to be successful with developing the light bulb, you had to experiment with different materials. The light bulb forever changed our every day lives going from candles and lanterns, to bulbs.
