Project BackRub - the origins of Google
In 1995 Stanford University student Larry Page, as part of his doctoral thesis, developed a web crawler he named "Project BackRub". ENABLE fibre-optic cable rollout
Enable Networks won the contract to undertake the fibre-optic cable rollout in Christchurch, NZ, as part of the governments Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) initiative. The budget for the rollout was $440m, and was scheduled to last eight years. It was completed 18 months early, delivering over 9000km of cable to more than 200,000 homes. The network delivers internet speeds upto 1GB, allowing multiple users within a household uninterrupted streaming service.
