In 1819 when Missouri requested to be a slave state, it caused a disagreement between the states because they were no longer evenly divided. The U.S Congress made a compromise saying that Missouri would be a slave state and Maine would be a free state.

    click here for more Nat Turner was a very religious man and slave. He had visions sent him from god of rebelling against white slave owners. One night Nat and group of slaves broke into their masters house and killed his whole family. The group of slaves continued killing white slave owners, until they were caught and later executed. They killed total of 55 white people.

Dred Scott argued that since his owner took him to a free state he should be free. This went all the way to the Supreme Court, then the Supreme Court said that Scott is still considered a slave.

He raises money for supplies and weapons and his army was grows. eventually he was ready for his assault, which only lasted a few hours before his army was surrounded. Brown was captured and hung at the gallows.

Republicans elected Abraham Lincoln. John Bell and John C. Breckinridge also ran for president, so there was a total of 4 candidates. Lincoln won and received 40% of the popular vote and 180 electoral votes. South Carolina seceded from the union a month after.
