Flagstaff, Arizona
Lessons Learned: The unsung hero beats inside all of us. Digital tribes, not money, can change the world. Escaping the Sonoran Desert heat up in the Ponderosa Pine Forest in search of opportunities to connect with my family in nature. https://soundcloud.com/monica-avila-beal/unsung-heroes -
Period: to
UC Denver - INTE 5340
For the next 8 weeks, we’ve been challenged by our illustrious instructor, Brad Hinson, to stretch ourselves, dig a little deeper, and connect with the creative part of our mind and soul. Let's speak loudly and visually and create stories that will resonate with our students and/or unique digital tribes. -
Cave Creek, Arizona (Basecamp)
Lessons Learned: Love > Fear. Collecting my thoughts and gathering my family's things for a summer of adventures and connections with those that means the most to us. https://soundcloud.com/monica-avila-beal/falling-back-to-grace-preview -
La Jolla, California
Lessons Learned: To really learn something is to create something. I'm a realist and my best creative work starts with thinking outside the box. "The cure for anything is salt water - tears, sweat or the sea." - Isak Dinesen

San Diego, California
Lessons Learned: Imitation is the sincerest form of learning. Be adventurous and go explore because the next amazing story might just be waiting for you right around the corner. https://soundcloud.com/monica-avila-beal/megans-peru -
Kachina Village, Arizona
Lessons Learned: Everything is a remix. Empower students by encouraging them to find inspiration by borrowing ("stealing") from artists that inspire them. Back to the Ponderosa Pines to honor the memory of a beautiful young woman, connect with good friends and a canyon fire miles away resulting in a near evacuation. What a week!

Spokane, Washington
Lessons Learned: It's OK to forget to do some things sometimes. For instance, forgetting to charge your children's electronic devices. They'll get over it if you spend time connecting with them. -
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Lessons Learned: The most powerful teaching tool = the simple act of caring. Visiting small towns is good for the soul especially if you're outside and not connected to a digital box. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBk-edUEp7c -
Denver, Colorado
Lessons Learned: Be flexible and don't be afraid to challenge the status quo. And if it's not urgent, just let it go. 24 hours in Denver. This is as close as I was able to get to UC Denver. Oh well, next time (-: -
Alliance, Nebraska
Lessons Learned: Sometimes the most interesting stories are told by unassuming everyday people who have the freedom to choose which stories represent their communities. I'm a "city girl" at heart but now starting to appreciate the slower tempo, culture and values found in small town communities. -
Bridgeport, Nebraska
Lessons Learned: The human voice is the audible soul. People like to be listened to because everyone has at least one interesting story to tell so listen and learn. Collecting more artifacts from the heartland of America that I will create into digital content. https://soundcloud.com/monica-avila-beal/summertime-a-cappella-field-recording-preview
