Railroad Strike of 1877
Follwing a cut in wage, railroad workers began to walk off from their jobs. this began a strike that would last several days and inspire more strikes to follow (Railroad Strike of 1877.) -
First Major Labor union was Founded.
The American Federation of Labor (AFL), while not the first labor union but the biggest of its time, was founded serving to improve the working conditions of the common worker (Union Plus.) -
Haymarket Square Riot
A labor strike that, after a bomb was thrown at police, tunred into a riot. Because of this riot, eight people were murdered and eight more convicted. This riot is shown as a setback for the labor movemetns of the time (Haymarket Square Riot.). -
The Homestead Strike
This day marked the first day of the Homestead strike. The Homestead Strike was about a labor lockout and strike which resulted in a day-long battle between the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers and the Carnegie Steel Company (Important Events: American Industrialization.)
