    The inventions for thread and cotton made a big impact and Mills were decided to be put in.

    Invention of the Spinning Jenny
    James Hargreaves the Spinning Jenny to allow one person to spin many threads at once. This invention was widely popular and there was over 20,000 Spinning Jenny's being used in Europe.
  • Scottish man James Watts invents the Steam Engine

    Scottish man James Watts invents the Steam Engine
    James Watts invents the steam engine after having to repair an engine for Newcomen. Along with a man Matthew Boulton they became to most important enginneering company in Britain.

    Factory Act of 1833
    In 1833 Parliment passed an act the make factories more secure for children and to restrict working hours. This helped to control the number of hours that children worked, and at what age they were allowed to work.
  • Mines Act of 1842

    Parliment passed an act to prohibit children (males and females), ages 10 and under, from working underground. Although this couldn't regulate the number of hours a child had to work.

    Alfreds invention makes going into mines safer and more efficient. Dynamite was also the first explosive that could be safely handled.

    The National for Preventions of Cruelty to Children is founded to try and stop child labour in factories. They campaigned and tried to change policies in order for children to have more rights.
  • Felix Hoffman creates a stable form of Aspirin!

    Felix Hoffman creates a stable form of Aspirin!
    Hoffman's more stable asprin made a huge imact in the medical field. This meant that people could now heal themselves with the medicine. Asprin also helped later on during the world wars.
