    Robber Baron -an American entrepreneur (business owner) who acquired fortune in the late 19th or early 20th centuries by using dishonest business practices (such as low wages for workers, governmental influence, or taking advantage of natural resources). Captain of Industry-a business leader whose means of attaining a fortune positively contributed to the country in some way (for example building railroads, increasing productivity, providing more jobs…)They help us to realize who we really are.

    The industrial revolution helped our economy in may ways. The in dustrial revoultion caused our population to increase by 1/3 due to the amout of immigrants that entered our country. But the Industrial Revolution also had some disadvantages. It caused new demand for new labor in child labor and also introduced division of labor, But another good thing was that the production was good. Everything was made faster.

    The progressive Era was a period of widespread political, economic, and social reform from the 1890s to through the 1920s. The progressive Era envolved a conservation movement that the average American intracts with the enviorment in a bad way. There's always trash in their water, on the streets, and on the parks. And people spend most of thir time writing graphiti all over the place. Another thing is that they cut down so many trees for the use of paper and then the paper would go to waste.

    The trust we are talking about isnt technically the type of trust you may be thinking about. This trust is when businesses are organized to reduce competition. President Theodore Rosevelt (also known as the progressive president.) thought that it was a good idea to break up the trust busting. Breaking up trust was seen as beneficial to the average America because prices tend to go down when a market is not controlled by a monopoly.

    In 1911 the ShirtWaist Factory Fire occured. At that time women were striking for women rigths. They ended up getting their victory in a dreadful way, they got beaten and went to jail. As a result they still ended up right back in a sewing factory working for their families. Then something traggic happened, a factory fire. The crazy thing is, about 30 women died from either jumping out a window or getting burnt up by flames because they didn't have an emergency escape.

In 1840-1860 :Ireland and Germany. Ireland-famine and poverty. Germany- political unheaval. Around 5 million immigrants.
