  • Jethro Tull invents the seed drill

    As part of the industrial revolution came many scientic farmers. One of the first was Jethro Tull who created the invention called the seed drill. This invention would allow farmers to sow seeds in well-spaced rows at specific depths.
  • John Kay invents flying shuttle

    Also part of the revolution was textile technology. John Kay who was a machinist made the flying shuttle. This was a "boat shaped piece of wood to which yarn was attached, doubled the work a weaver could do in a day."
  • James Watt builds the first steam engine

    Many people tried to make the steam engine even more cheaper and a convenient source of power. James Watt figured out a way to make the steam engine work faster and more efficiently. (while burning less fuel) He partners up with entreprenous Boulton and together take on the industry.
  • Marx and Engels publish The Communist Manifesto

    Marx and Engel wrote about there ideas of a radical type of socialism called Marxism in this pamphlet. There ideas would lead to the idea of communism.
  • US Civil War ends; US experiences technological boom

    After the civil war ends, the Unites States experiences a whole new world full of new ideas and technologies. (no longer agricultural)
  • Germany becomes dominant industrial power in Europe

    Germany becomes dominant industrial power in Europe
    Germany becomes a dominant industrial power by importing British equipment and engineers and building railroads betweeen manufacutring cities. They also were able to have the ability to develop as a military power.
  • British Unions win right to strike

    British unions who pressed for reforms such as raising wages for their members and improving working conditions, finally won the right to strike and protest in peace.
