  • Beginning of Zionist Movement

    This movement advocated that Palestine should be a Jewish state because the ancient state of Isreal was located there, and their ancestors had also lived there.
  • Balfour Declaration

    The British government created the Balfour Declaration to express support for a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine; however, it also said that the goal should not affect the Muslims residing in Palestine.
  • Modernization of Turkey

    Turkey's leader, President Kemal, began to modernize Turkey, and he put in place a democratic system of government. He made several other small changes such as changing the alphabet and modernized Turkey's economy.
  • Modernization of Iran

    Reza Khan followed the example of President Kemal and strengthened the government, the military, and the economic system. The main difference that Reza Khan made was keeping Islam a main part of Iran and turning Iran into a completely secular nation.
