    Family wanted him to go into the family business running a grocery store but he wanted to study art. Started out studying with Eugene Boudin who taught him plein air technique. Instead of painting replicas of other works of the masters, Monet would sit by a window and paint. He began to meet other artists and share their techniques with each other including a technique of painting in plein air with broken color and rapids brushstrokes. This later became what is termed, “Impressionism”.

    -Spent his career trying out the different styles of everyone else while struggling to find the one that worked the best for him.

    -Spent some time working in Montmartre and his subject matter was usually Suzanne Valadon who eventually became a leading painter herself.
    -Painted until he was very old. While suffering from arthritis he even painted with a brush tied to his wrists. He even continued to paint when he was wheelchair bound due to his ailing body.
