    Fredrick Douglas was a runaway slave who fought for other slaves freedom and independence. He was an abolitionist leader. Soon after he wrote a newspaper article that was called "The North Star" because when slaves were escaping they followed the north star to guide them to freedom.

    Bleeding Kansas was violence between pro and anti-slavery towns. It was a series of bloody political confrontations, which led to burning building and vandalism on both sides. John Brown who was stongly against slavery, murders pro slave supporters.

    Dred Scott was a slave taken from a slave state to a free state. Sent back to the south, Scott sues claiming he is free since he lived in a free state. Supreme Court says he is property and has no right to sue, anyone with African American blood could never be a citizen.
