King Jayavarman II combines smaller states to create the larger Khmer Empire.He makes the capital in Angkor, Cambodia. This is the start of the Khmer Empire.

In 802 A.D. King Jayavarman II becomes the first King of Cambodia and the Khmer Empire and declares himself the first Khmer God-King or Devaraja.

In 1113 A.D. Suryavarman II killed his uncle after jumping onto his elephant and killing him during a riot. He proclaims himself the King of the Khmer Empire.

Angkor Wat was built in 1113-1150 A.D. by King Suryavarman 2 as a tribute to the Hindu God Vishnu. He built it in 37 years but it was only finished after he died.

Cham people sailed up the Great Lake river and attack the eastern Khmer area as well as its capital Angkor. Angkor is rebuilt due to this in 1181 by king Jayavarman VII. Khmer Empire is still existent.

Jayavarman brought Burma, southern Laos and other places under Khmer control during his 39 years of power. He also built over 100 hospitals and rest houses throughout the Khmer empire.

At over 90 years old king Jayavarman VII dies of an unknown source.
He played a very important role in the empire building hundreds of hospitals, rest stops and conquering many countries. He was one of the most important leaders in the empire. -
Buddhism is now the main religion in the empire brought in by Indian traders and merchants. It is named after its founder , Buddha. It was allowed to be a religion because many of the kings did not see it as being a threat to their empire.

Over the years Angkor Wat's location is forgotten but the empire is still existent. The jungle grows over it and is never reused by the Khmer people.

The Khmer empire change their capital to Phnom Penh instead of Angkor. Possibly due to looting of the temple there or wars damaging their buildings and farms there.
