    February 4 - General hostilities erupt between U.S. inside Manila and Filipino forces surrounding the city. After its defeat in the Spanish-American War of 1898, Spain ceded its longstanding colony of the Philippines to the United States in the Treaty of Paris.

    Hay-Buanau -Varilla Treaty
    The Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty, which passed by 66 votes to 14 on february 23. The next day it was officaliy exchanged. An American Guy who was a leader from the United States controled over the future panama canal.

    The corollary states that the United States will have conflicts between European countries and Latin American countries to enforce claims of the European powers, rather than having the Europeans press their claims directly. US threatened European nations with their military to keep them out of Europe.
  • US occupation of the Dominican Republic

    The United States assumed administration of the Dominican Republic's customs. For five days, from 2 October 1937 to 8 October 1937, Dominican troops killed Haitians with guns, machetes, clubs, and knives.

  • The Great White Fleet

    The Great White Fleet
    Beginning with just 90 small ships, over one-third of them were wooden. The hulls of these ships were painted a stark white, giving the armada the nickname "Great White Fleet".
  • Panama Canal

    Panama Canal
    Although the French had attempted construction of a canal in the 1880s, the Panama Canal was successfully built from 1904 to 1914. Once the canal was complete the U.S. held a swath of land running the 50 miles across the isthmus of Panama.
