    The Opium Wars
    The opium wars were from 1839-42; 1856-60. China was self-suffient but they had one trading port called Guangzhou. China didn't trade as much as they needed too; England made up for trade with silver and Britain made up with Opium from Idia(one of their colonies at the time). A war broke out and China lost because of Britains steamboats. Treaty of Nanking was made and Great britain got Hong kong
  • Crimean War

    Crimean War
    Crimean War, war fought mainly on the Crimean Peninsula between the Russians and the British, French, and Ottoman Turkish, with support from the army of Sardinia-Piedmont. The war broke out because they disagreed which church will have custody of Holy places & income derived from the Holy places, located within the Ottoman Empire.

    The Sepoy Rebellion
    The rebellion was in 1857. Britain owned India since 1757, ruled India by Sepoys(from the Persian Army). India was Britain's most valueable colony. British forces switched to enfield rifles and Indian sepoys revolted. It let to a rise in Indian Nationalism. They pushed for home rule.

    Japan was a locked country, no one could come in and no one could leave. But in 1853 commondore Perry arrives. America comes with 4 warships and 80+ canons, a war has began. In the restoration Shogunate was over thrown and meiji emperor was restored. Soon Japan was modernized and now is one of the the most industrialized nation in Asia.

    Congo was under Kind Leopold II from 1885-1908. The Congo Free State became the site of one of the worst international scandals of the early 20th century. He took over for the Ivory and rubber supply. Leopold was brutal, if they didn't give a basket of ivory, he would demand a basket of hands.

    The first ship to go through the canal was an Egpytian Pharaoh. The canal is 120 miles long and 80 feet deep. 15,000 Ships pass through the canal each year. And, Egypt makes 3$ billion a year because of it.

    Started in 1898-1901, China feared they would go under European powers and Americans declared open door policy. Foreigners known as "Foreign Devils" dominated China invaded and tried to take over. The chinese believed they wouldnt lose because the "gods" would be overtaken during battle.
