In Erikson's fifth stage, identity vs identity confusion, a person explores their identity and role in life to find their single identity, or they become confused about themselves and their purpose in life.

In Erikson’s sixth stage, intimacy vs. isolation, a person forms a committed, long, and loving relationship with another, or a person experiences loneliness, depression, and lack of companionship.
