The Careers are after them and Katniss was able to hurt them badly. The Careers were a big threat.

Clover helps save Katniss

Clover fixed Katniss's bow so Katniss could shoot. Clover also gathered food and blew up the food of the Careers. The Careers would starve. That helped Katniss win.

Peeta needs to sleep to heal his wounds. Peeta is Katniss's partner so if you help Peeta, you also help Katniss. The food keeps both from starving.
