The government offered low-interest home loans to returned military staff saved feverishly to buy their own home.

    These houses were built from brick abd had red tiles roofs. This led to the development of brick veneer houses, where a single layer of brick is attached to an internal timber frame. Brick veneer looked like double brick from the outside, but was much cheaper to construct and provided better insulation. Today, brick veneer is still common in Australia.

    Australia was in short supply of skilled workers to help with reconstruction efforts of housing. The government established a migration programme to boost the country's population.

    In the 1960's, continuing building houses cheaply which means big houses were affordable for Australians. Australians lifestyle changed dramatically as they built a second bathroom and more accomendation. As car ownership increased garages were built. This technological advancement has lead to inner city skyrise apartments and highrise apartment.

    In the early 1950's, cars were expensive. The main transport back then were buses, trains and trams. As second hand cars started to become a financial reach for households, houses were started to be made with garages.

    Australians were more aware of the environment. Many people moved to the bush and used natural materials like mud brick and raw timber. Australians wanted to live in environmental housing but it was more of a dream, majority of them stayed in the cities.

    Australian cities were in bad shape as people tried to rebuild old houses in the area. As Europeans lived in cheap inner city houses, they changed the look of the streets with cafe and delicatessens, which made the cities look more attractive to live in. People started to live in the cities

    It is the Australian dream of owning your own home in urbanised areas. People were building houses around the edges of cities. House designs in the 1990's are meant to be larger, but front and backyards are to decreased.
