    at first the city was not very popular and had a very small population. They had terrible roads and no means of income, however, with better roads and a port, that will soon change.

    Monroe and William Pinkney negotiated a treaty that Jefferson and Madison could not accept because it failed to address the impressment of American sailors into British ships. The United States suffered many costly defeats at the hands of British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of the War of 1812.

    John brown
    John Brown, a staunch abolitionist, and a group of his supporters left For Harpers Ferry. Brown and his men captured prominent citizens and seized the federal armory and arsenal. First held down by the local militia, Brown took refuge in the arsenal’s engine house. Colonel Robert E. Lee arrived and stormed the engine house, killing many of the raiders and capturing Brown. Brown was charged with treason,murder, and slave insurrection. Brown was sentenced to death for his crimes.

    Ohio Columbus Barber forms the Barber match company out of his father's small match making business. Soon he is selling the majority of the matches in America. He later merges with several other companies to form diamond match company, who creates 85% of America's matches, which is later bought by diamond products. He also founded Barberton for his workers to live in when he moved out of Akron.

    The first of the great rubber barons, B.F. Goodrich, was formed in 1871. All of the rubber industries brought a lot of business and helped the economy and population grow even more. They brought a lot of fame to Akron. Goodyear and Firestone also built communities for their workers to live in to make sure that they were all loving well.

    Ferdinand Schumacher founds the German mills American oatmeal company which later merges into Quaker Oats after one of his mills burned down and he lost a great deal of money. Quaker Oats was Akron's largest single employer and provided a great deal of jobs and brought in a lot of business/ money to Akron.

    Wilbur and Orville Wright had been scientifically experimenting with the concepts of flight.Orville Wright piloted the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach in North Carolina. The flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet.     Ohio and Erie Canal is flooded
    There was a massive storm and to prevent flooding, they blew up all of the locks in the canal, nevertheless it still flooded. Many parts of the canal were now unusable and though business had been slowing on the canal, it now came to a grinding halt and much of hat business went to the trains. Some parts of the canal are still used today for tourism purposes.

    The effects of WW1 on America were wide-ranging covering the political, economic and social impact the Great War had on the United States. Unlike the countries of Europe, the factories and home of the US had not been destroyed. Manufacturing, production and efficiency had increased. America had emerged as a world industrial leader and the US economy was booming, profits were increasing which led to the period in American history with massive rise in consumerism for the wealthy.
