    Ho Chi Minh was born as Nyugen That Thanh on May 19, 1890 in Hoang Tru, Vietnam (Axelrod 140). He was the son of a poor rural country scholar. Between the ages of 14 and 18, he went to a grammar school in Hue. Afterwards he became a schoolmaster in Phan Thiet, then apprenticed at a technical institute in Saigon.

    Starting in 1899, Wilbur and his brother, Orville, designed gliders to test flight of unmanned crafts. They successfully got the unmanned gliders to work. They decided to build a full size manned craft and test it at Kitty Hawk. It was the first piloted glider. They learned that a movable tail would make it easier to control and balance, and then built a movable track to launch the glider from. In 1909, the government bought it's first airplane, the Wright Brothers Biplane (thoughtco.com).

    On November 16, 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th state in the U.S. Theodore Roosevelt signed the Oklahoma enabling act to make Oklahoma an official state. Oklahoma's land was originally bought from the Louisiana Purchase.

    Ho Chi Minh left Vietnam and became a cook at a French Streamer in 1911 when WWI started (Axelrod 140). Not long afterwards he started working as a cook at a London hotel. He spent the next several years traveling to Africa, the United States, and Great Britain (History.com).

    When WWI ended, Ho Chi Minh moved to France and became active in the socialist party. At the 1919 Paris Peace conference, he unsuccessfully lobbied and petitioned on behalf of the civil rights of Indochina (Encyclopedia Britannica). Ho wanted to liberalize the French Regime. He spoke of a reform instead of independence (Gowen). This meeting represents Ho's last attempt to acquire his nationalist goals in the West.
  • Joining French Communism Party

    In 1920, Ho Chi Minh joined the French Communism Party, "inspired by the success of Vladimir Lenin's Bolshevik Revolution" (History.com). In 1923, he traveled to Moscow and recruited members of a Vietnamese nationalist movement that would form the Indochinese Communist Party in 1930.

    In 1920, Ho Chi Minh was inspired by Vladimir Lenin's revolution, and joined the French Communist Party. In 1923, he traveled to Moscow where he would form the Indochinese communist party. He then traveled the world, and worked as a representative for the Communist International Organization.

    Franklin Roosevelt served as president from 1933 to 1945. He was a democrat, and won the record for winning four presidential elections. He was important to our history because he helped the United States during the time of the great depression. He is rated one of the three best U.S. presidents of all time.

    Organizing the Viet Minh
    He took the name "Ho Chi Minh," which translates to "Bringer of Light," after Germany defeated France in January of 1941. He organized the Viet Minh with his lieutenants Vo Nguyen Giap and Pham Van Dong. They wanted to break away from French rule. In 1943, members of the Viet Minh liberated large parts of Northern Vietnam, and became the democratic republic of Vietnam (Encyclopedia Britannica).

    The name "Ho Chi Minh" translated to "bringer of light," took place when he returned to Vietnam and organized the Viet Minh, the league of Independence for Vietnam. Ho was imprisoned by the shangai anti-communist government for 18 months afterwards. He was imprisoned because he was accused for being a spy by South China.

    Starting in 1942, the United States stopped the production of automobiles. All the sales and delivery of cars were halted. The World War 2 that was going on at the time needed all the money it could get. The auto industry adapted, and made tanks, bombs, torpedoes, planes, and ammo for the war (teachhistory.org).

    D-Day
    On June 6, 1944 five infantry divisions were sent to five beaches, accompanied by three airborne divisions, which landed over 150,000 men in one day (History.com). There were over 100 warships that bombarded the coastal defenses. On a beach in Omaha Beach, casualties were high because of well-prepared defensive works. The British and American air forces stopped the Germans from making a counter-attack. This led to the liberation of France and Belgium in August of 1944 (encyclopedia.com).

    In 1945, Ho Chi Minh created the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. He wrote a Declaration of Independence, which stated that All men were created equal, and are given rights that were life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. During this time period, about 50,000 North Vietnamese died, and 100,000 were imprisoned because of the lack of freedom of speech (History.com)
  • Jackie Robinson

    Jackie Robinson
    In 1947, Jackie Robinson was the first black American to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1949, he became the first mvp of the season. He was put into the baseball hall of fame in 1962. But even though he was full of talent, people still insulted and threatened him because of his race. The calm way he acted inspired other black men and women to stand up and pushed towards the civil rights movement (History.com).

    The Vietnam War
    In 1954, Ho Chi Minh was the leader of Vietnam, and he convinced the French they could not be trusted. The battle of Dien Bien Phu forced France to leave Vietnam. Starting in 1963, Ho ordered that the Viet Minh should get supplied with arms from the Ho Chi Minh trail. In 1965, Ho sent North Vietnamese troops to help the Viet Minh fight the US military (Historylearningsite.com).
  • Death of Ho Chi Minh

    Death of Ho Chi Minh
    In the early 1960s, a new war broke out in the South, where communist guerillas fought against a U.S. regime in Saigon. When the U.S. interfered with military, Ho Chi Minh directed his forces to fight the Americans. At this time, Ho Chi Minh's health was deteriorating, and he died on September 2, 1969. His legacy became a representation of revolution and an icon of communism.
