The NBA Get it's name

The now NBA was known as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league got the name NBA in 1949 after the merger with their arch rival National Basketball League.

Red Auerbach was hired to coach the Boston Celtics

Although the date is not specific, Red Auerbach joins the Celtics in 1950. He went on to lead the Celtics to 9 titles and became the winningest coach in the NBA.
