History Vietnam Timeline By jjuananavarro 1858 French soldiers occupy Vietnam. The French decide to colonize Vietnam and they control the zone now (French Indochina) 1930 Ho Chi Minh, later Vietnam’s “prime minister”, founded the Indochinese Communist party. 1940 France still controlled Vietnam and European colonies occupied it. 1941 The Indochinese Communist party starts preparing for attacks and arranges the “Viet Minh”, Guerrilla forces for war. 1942 Attacks begin between the European Colonies and the Indochinese Communist party. 1945 Ho Chi Minh becomes Prime Minister. 1945 The Guerrilla Forces stopped the attacks. 1945 Ho Chi Minh declares Vietnam's Independence. 1946 The Guerrilla Forces are attacked by the French. 1949 China became communist and this influenced Vietnam. 1950 The USSR and China consider Vietnam a “Democratic Republic”. 1954 After the Geneva Conference, Vietnam is separated into South and North. 1954 The French are defeated again at the battle of Dien Bien Phu. 1954 The Viet Minh (Guerrilla Forces) attack a near French outpost. 1955 Ho Chi Minh became President and finished his rule in 1969.
