    A treaty between the United States and the Native Americans. The United states set territories for the Native Americans. In return the United states gave them tools and food.

    The Comstock lode was the first big discovery of Silve ore. Many people rushed to mine the silver . The Comstock Lode declined after 1872

    The Cattle Kingdom

    After the Civil War the demand for meat was high in the U.S. So cowboys were hired to drive these free roaming cattle into cowtowns where they were then transported all over the U.S. This cattle kingdom ended when barb wire was invented. The barbed wire stopped the cowboys from being able to drive the cattle out of Texas.

    Homestead Act
    The Homestead Act was issued in 1862. This said that you could purchase a plot of land for twelve dollars that was 160 acres. The only thing that you had to do is farm all of this land, or else the goverment would take this land back from you.

    The Construction of the Transcontinental Railroad

    The Transcontinental Railroad is a railroad that stretches from one side of the U.S. to the other. This railroad helped more people migrate to the western part of the country. Many people died from building this railroad because of explosions when they had to go through mountains.
  • Barbed Wire Invented

    Barbed Wire Invented
    Barbed Wire was invented by Lucien B. Smith in 1867. This invention put a stop to the cattle kingdom. Farmers would put barbed wire fences around their land so cowboys couldnt drive the cattle through their land. Barb wire is just simply a metal wire with sharp points sticking out of it.

    Oklahoma Land Rush
    1889 was the first Land Rush. People would line up and race to land plots and first one to claim it got the land for free. One of the problems with this was people would hurt other people in order to get to the land first. Another problem with this is people called Sooners would hide on one of the land plots before the race starts and just pop out and claim the land once it does start.

    The Election of 1896
    In this election of 1896 Republican candidate William McKinley defeated Democrat William Jennings Bryan. This was one of the most dramatic races in American History. McKinley ended up with 23 states carried and Bryan ended up with 22 states carried.
