    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest by the colonists about taxing tea. After officials refused to return three huge loads of tea to Britain, a few people(colonists) went onto the ships and dumped all the tea in the Boston Harbor.

    The Coercive or "Intolerable" Acts
    A series of laws passed by the British Parliament that was the reponse to the Boston Tea Party. To punish Massechusets for the Boston Tea Party, the Massachusetts charter was cancelled, Boston Harbor was closed, All their old government was kicked out and new officals were put in including a governor many colonists hated.

  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress was at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was held because the colonies wanted to talk about the passage of the Coercive Acts by the British Parliament.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The battle of Lexington and Concord was really the first battle in the American Revolution. Britian decided to spend out a few british soldiers to Lexington to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock ( who were wanted for rebellion at the time), then go to Concord to streal their gunpower.Their plan was leaked and men on horseback such as Paul Revere, and Dr. Samuel Prescott rode into the night to warn the people the british were coming.

    The Second Continental Congress was held on May 10, 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which managed the colonial war effort and working towards independence. Some members wrote the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence.

    For Ticoderoga was captured by the Americans which was their first "Offical" victory in the war.

    George Washington took command of the Continental Army on June, 15, 1775 , but didn't start doing things for them until July 3rd of that year. He was voted in the American Congress.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill was held on Charlestown Peninsula which is on the North side of Boston Harbour. It inculded around 2,400 British troops against about 1,500 Americans. Even though the British won they lost many people.

    Thomas Paine published "Common Sense" originally as anonymous for fear of getting in troblue for his ideas. The 47 page pamphlet was the first thing to really touch on the idea of "You(Coloines) have to leave your mother( Britain) evenutlly.

    The Declaration of Independence was offically made on July, 4 1776 which is why we light fireworks on that day.
  • Battle of Long Island/Battle of Brooklyn

    First real battle in the war. The British tried to trap the Americans in Brooklyn so George Washington (The American General at that time) decided to stand his ground. Later at nightfall his army retreated under cover. This battle happened over a few days and was the first British victory.

    In 1776 30,000 British troops arrivied in the Boston Harbor indcating they were ready for the great war to begin.

    Benjamin Franklin went to France during the Revolutionary War to ask them to join and help the colonies in the war. He asked France because they were very powerful in that timeperiod. France did join them.

    The battle of Trenton was a battle that happened because George Washington( who was the general at that time) made his men cross the Delaware river which is north of Trenton, New Jersey. The weather helped them so he could lead his men against the Hessian soldiers who were at Trenton. The battle itself was short but, The C.C. won and captured almost all of the other sides soldiers.

    The battle of Charleston was a major battle near the end of the war where the British started to work towards gaining the Southern Colonies. After six weeks of failing the Continental Army Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered with about 5,000 troops.

    Turning point in the war where the French decided to help the Americans. Battle of Saratoga is kind of a failed plan and lot of battles that happened because of the plan.

    Articles of Confederation adopted
    The Articles of Confederation was an agreement among the 13 states that established the United States and was basically the first constitution. The first draft was written by the Continental Congress in mid 1776 and once approved was sent for ratification in late 1777.

    George Washington's winter at Vally Forge was totally horrible because people he was responsible for were dying all around him and there was little he could do. The weather wouldn't cooperate many soldiers had frost btie due to the frezzing cold. People were also just leaving because of how much everything sucked.

    After leaving france and spying on British merchants John Paul Jones captured the ship known as Serapis .
  • Elizabeth Freeman sues Massachusetts for her freedom

    Elizabeth Freeman sues Massachusetts for her freedom
    Now known as Mum Bett, Elizabeth Freeman was one of the first black slaves in Massachusetts. She filed a "freedom suit" and won under the 1780 constitution. The ruling basically ended slavery in that state.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown took place in Virginia with 8,800 Americans fighting along with 7,800 french against 6,000 British. The Americans won this battle and won the whole war. This was the last Major event until the Treaty of Paris which ended the war.

    The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War which was basically between the Americans and the British and any allies they may had picked up.
