  • A DEAFEAT FOR THE CONTINENTAL ARMY

    In late August a battle in New York between the British and the Continenal Army ended with victory for the british as the men of the Continental Army retreated.
  • WITNESS

    A Continental Army volunteer by the name of Michael Graham describes the chaotic withdrawal.
  • THE BRITISH MARCHING TO STOP REBELLION

    The British had previously retreated from Boston. THen they decided to head doen to the middle states to stop the rebellion.
  • BROTHERS JOINING FORCES

    In 1776 during the summer two brothers named general William Howe and admiral Richard Howe on Staten Island.
  • Suppling in Secrecy

    Since early 1776 the french secretly sent weapons to the patriots because they were still bitter that they lossed the French and Indian to the British.
  • PUSHED TO PENNSILVANIA

    By late fall the British had pushed the Washington's army across the Delaware River into Pennsilvania with most of his troops killed or captured by the British.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    Washington made a bold move and decided to attack a Hessian camp where the men were currently dirinking and having fun. While Washingtion and his men are crossing the Delaware River. They reached that camp at 8 oclock in the morning and sneak attcked the Hessians. The american's won
  • We MUST ATTAIN VICTORY

    The terms of the enlistment would end and all the soilders will most likley leave,Washington desperatly needing a victory to keep his troops from going home.
  • ANOTHER VICTIORY

    8 days later another victory was won by the American's In Princeton.
  • CAPTURE THE CAPITAL

    In the spring of 1777 General Howe set off to capture Philadelphia which is America's capital. He sailed from NewYork to the head of Chesapeake Bay. They landed near the capital in late August
  • BATTLE OF SARATOGA

    BATTLE OF SARATOGA
    A mass amount of American troops surrounded British General Burgoyne at Saratoga. This is where the general surrendered. This event also altered the British battle plans which was they were going to stay close to the coast.
  • THE WINTER OF VALLEY FORGE

    From 1777-1778 it was the winter of valley forge and the pariots (Continental Army) camped out in make shift huts in the frezzing weather in Pennsylvania woods. While the British troops are camping in warm homes because they now occupy Philadelphia.
  • Agreement

    The french sighned a treaty with the American's that says they reconize Americas independence. The traty also says that the French cannot make peace with the British until they reconize the Americans independence
  • A more Stronger Continental Army

    With the help of military leaders that are trained proffesonals the Continental Army was becoming a great fighting force.
  • The deafeat of the battle of saratoga and the British new Strategy

    After their humiliating defeat at the battle of Saratoga they began to shift their operations to the south
  • Gaining territory

    The British gained Savanna,Georgia while going on an expedition.
  • By the Spring of 1779

    By the spring of 1779 Georgia has a royal govener once again.
  • MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE

    This man joined Washington and offered his assistence he also sent for more french reinforcments.
  • What happended

    During this time marched American soilders as prisoners of war.Then Clinton left for New York and left Cornwallis in charge of the british soilders and to conquer the south and north Carolina
  • Cornwallis succeeded

    during this time Cornwallis succeeded for the most part in conquering north and south carolina and they advanced taking in runaway slaves as soilders in exchange for their freedom.
  • THE PLAN

    The French and Americans devise a well thought out plan to corner the British in Yorktown with all the inforation they gained.
  • BRITIAN LOSES IN 1781

    During this time the British met up with the Continental army in Cowspen,South Carolina. The British thought the American troops would run away instead they stood their ground and fought back until the British surrendered in the end.
  • A letter

    Greene who is a general of Washington's weakened the British but he worried on how the fight for the south will go so he writes a letter asking for help to Lafayette.
  • Gain money

    Congress appointed a rich Philadelphian merchant by the name of Robert Morris with his superintendent Haym Salomon to raise money in order to pay the troops
  • Raised Enough

    By this date Morris and Salomon raised enough money to pay the soilders.
  • close to surrendering

    With his troops outnumbered Cornwallis finally relized defeat and surrendered.
  • the battle of YORKTOWN

    the battle of YORKTOWN
    On this day Yorktown, Virgina witnessed the deafeat of the british in which America finally gains their independence.
  • SURRENDER

    On this date Washington, the French Generals and troops accepted the British surrender.
  • SEEKING PEACE

    the talk of peace was in paris in the year 1782. reprsenitives of the 4 nations talked during this meeting. They want to negotiate something so they can gain what they wish
  • TREATY OF PARIS

    During a long time of megociating the nations decided on what to do and so sighned the Treaty of Paris.
  • General Henry Clinton

    General Henry Clinton replaced Howe in New York and along with Genral Charles Cornwallis sailed south with alot of troops.
