Even though they lived on a different continent, they were still under the control of Britain (The year is correct, but the month and day may not be. I could only find the year the first was established)

Lewis and Clark were appointed by President Jefferson to explore the land bought in the Louisiana Purchase. They came back on September 3rd,1806. Their expedition contributed a lot of information in a lot of areas.

There was lots of tension between slave and free states. This compromise made Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state. It passed an ammendment that drew an imaginary line between slave states and free states.

When the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed, it allowed the citizens to vote whether they were a slave state or a free state. Lots of people came into Kansas to vote, from both sides. The pro-slavery and anti-slavery groups started fighting.
