History Presentation

  • Flying Shuttle

    Flying Shuttle
In 1704 John Kay invented the Flying Shuttle. The flying Shuttle weaved fabrics faster than the human hand. It was so fast it cut the labor force in half causing people to lose their jobs. It is equivalent to a modern day loom.
  • Steam Engine

    Steam Engine
James Watt invented the Steam Engine in 1763. The Steam Engine uses boiling water to move an object. The steam engine is more environmentally friendly than the locomotive that uses coal instead of water. It was a disadvantage, at first, for factories that used these engines because they had to be close to a water supply. We use steam engines today in many forms. Many power plants, ships, etc use steam engines.
  • Spinning Jenny

    Spinning Jenny
James Hargreaves invented the Spinning Jenny in 1764. It helped us by spinning cotton into textiles. It lowered the labor force required to produce causing people to lose their jobs. Its equivalent to a loom.
  • Water Frame

    Water Frame
Richard Arkwright invented the Water Frame in 1769. The Water Frame uses water to spin the wheel to create cotton thread. It provided more power to the machine than people could. It decreased the number of workers needed. Some people lost their jobs. it can be compared with a loom.
  • Spinning Mule

    Spinning Mule
Samuel Compton invented the Spinning Mule in 1775. The Spinning Mule is a machine that spins cotton and other fibers. It was a faster way to spin cotton. The machine had to be cleaned often and it was dangerous to clean it. Many people had been crushed under the machine.
  • Steamboat

    Steamboat
Robert Fulton invented the Steamboat in 1777. This boat transports people from place to place. The steamboat transported humans faster than walking. It polluted the air & used our natural resources. This is equivalent to a ferry.
  • Steam Locomotive

    Steam Locomotive
Richard Trevithick invented the Steam Locomotive in 1812. The Steam Locomotive helped us by making it to where we can transport goods faster. It hurt us by producing smoke that polluted the air. Its equivalent to a train.
  • Miners Safety Lamp

    Miners Safety Lamp
George Stephenson invented the Miners Safety Lamp. It is a lamp that has tiny holes to let air in and keep the flames from getting out of the holes. Miners use this lamp to see in mines. The lamp is dangerous. It could explode when it is exposed to gas. This is equivalent to a helmet lamp.
  • Pasteurization

    Pasteurization
Louis Pasteur invented Pasteurization in 1822. Pasteurization is a process that uses heat to kill bacteria in our food and drinks. This lessened deaths caused by bacteria in food and drinks. It can make food taste or look different. We still use the process of pasteurization today
  • Bessemer Converter

    Bessemer Converter
Henry Bessemer invented the Bessemer Converter which mass produced steel in 1856. This helped us by making it to where we can make buildings stronger and we can go higher with buildings. It hurt us because it was at such a high demand and it was hard to find. Its equivalent to a blast furnace.
  • Phonograph

    Phonograph
Thomas Edison invented the Phonograph in 1877. The phonograph is a device that was used to record sound. Instead of writing you could record your voice. If it messed up you wouldn't have record of what you recorded. Its equivalent to a turntable
  • Tesla Coil

    Tesla Coil
Nikola Tesla invented the Tesla Coil in 1891. The Tesla Coil is an oscillator that is used to make electricity. It can make high frequency low voltage electricity. Its used in museums for educational proposes.
