Al Qaeda hijacked four passenger planes in America on the 11th September 2001. Two planes were flown into the twin towers, making them collapse. The other two planes were flown into the pentagon and rural Pennsylvania In total the attacks killed nearly 3000 people. An earthquake hit in the Indian ocean in 2004 causing a large tsunami that affected 14 countries. It caused destruction worth of about $508 million. Many tourists were affected by the disaster some getting caught in it with others having to cancel their trips.

Several volcanic eruptions in Eyjafjallajökull caused an enormous ash cloud that spread across Europe. This put a stop to air travel due to the fear of engine damage, so many holidays were cancelled. 107,000 flights were cancelled in the space of 8 days affecting 10 million passengers.

Covid19 was a virus that came about in 2019 that cause billions to get infected. This caused a lock down where every country had to put a complete stop to everyday life with people not being allowed outside without a face mask and having to work from home. People were not allowed to travel so this had a massive impact on the travel industry.
