    Was the GM-NAA I/O was an OS for an IBM Mainframe computer.

    Signifcant imporvement in mainframe computers.

    Computers improve in computing capacity, however prescense of a modern OS is rare.
  • Atlas Supervisor is released.

    Considered the first recognisable modern operating system, was introduced for the Machester Atlast

    UNIX developed at Bell Labs.

    UNIX OS is being developed at the famous bell labs.

    Simple MIcrocomputers being developed.

    These had simple input/output interfaces, as well as access to RAM. Primarily geared towards hobbyists. Includes many types fo IBM and Motorola machines.
  • Founding of Apple

    Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniack, and Ronald Wayne start Apple Inc. to sell the Apple I computer.

    Development of first VIdeo Game Console operating systems.

    Includes several companies like Sony, Nintendo, etc..
  • First Windows OS released

  • Apple Lisa is released

    The first computer with a graphical user interface to access the operating system functions.
  • GNU Project Started

    Started by Richard Stallman with the process of creating a free, mass collaboation operating system.
  • Intel 80386 Chip Introduced

    Allowed OS required algorithms like paging and and multitasking for first time on microcomputers.
  • NeXT first prototype released

    Further developement of the GUI in the modern day operating system.
  • Development of first Mobile Operating system begins

    Started with PDA/PALM OS.
  • Apple introduces iOS.

  • Android is released.

  • Windows 10 for Mobile is released.
