    In the Cold war, only scientists use the internet to communicate information to each other. If one computer broke the others wouldn't break as well.

    He proposed the idea of a network of computers.
  • The First Message

    The first message sent via one computer to another happened in 1969 through the ARPANET which stood for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. The first base was at a lab at UCLA and the second was located at Stanford University. The first word the tried to send was 'LOGIN' but it only sent the first two letters which were 'LO'. By the end of the year only 4 computers were connected.

  • Ray Tomlinson

    Ray Tomlinson created the Electronic Mail which we now know as Email. The @ symbol was shown to separate the users name apart from the hosts name.
  • Vinton Cerf

    They now needed a way of all computers to connect together to be able to send one email from any computer to another computer. He created a thing called 'Transmission Control Protocol', or for short TCP. This was then followed by IP's which were Internet protocols. Then in the 1980's scientists used Cerf's data to send messages back and forth.
  • Dial Up

    In the early yers of the 1990's a thing called dial-up was created which was were you telephone line was connected to a modem and the other side was connected to a phone jack. However in some stages you couldn't access both the internet and your phone at the same time.
  • Tim Burners-Lee

    Tim Burners-Lee created the world wide web which was a complete network which anyone with an internet connection could access to find information online.

    New Browsers added

    Erwise was created in 1992 and was the first to have a graphical interface. In 1993 Mosiac was made and influenced many upcoming browsers because it was so popular. Netscape Navigator was then added in 1994 which became the new most popular browser.
  • Today

    We now have access to many apps and can access much more information on the internet. You can search things up quicker and send messages to family and friends through other instalments such as Instagram, snapchat and messenger. We also have access to other things such as emojis which you can show people your expression and feelings through a text.
