    First NFLPA established by 11 out of 12 teams ( Chicago Bear players did not participate). Gained attention of the owners when they threatned them with an Anti-Trust lawsuit.

    Founded in 1957 by players Ted Lindsay and Doug Harvey. Not very successful becasue anyone who joined the assocation would either be traded away or not get playing time on the team they were on.

    Players such as Oscar Roberston, Bob Cousy, and the rest of the NBA All-Stars threaten the owners by saying they will not play on national t.v unless the playesr association is recognized as an labor union. The owners agree, and the NBAPA is now an exclusive, labor union that represents NBA players.

    Offically founded by the original 6 team. The NHLPA elected Alan Eagleson to be executive director of the association, a position he held until 1991.
  • First NFLPA Strike

    Players are upset with the lack of compensation the owners are providing to their pension plan. On July 3rd, 1968 the players voted to strike against the owners. The owners decided to lockout the league until an agreement was made. A decision was made on July 15th, 1968 and the first CBA is created for the NFL.

    In 1965, MLBPA hired Marvin Miller, a successful economist, to run their assocation. In 1968, he successfully negotiated the first ever collective bargaining agreement in professional sports.

    Occured from April 1st-April 13th. This is the first strike in MLB history. Owners and players disagreed on player pensions and arbitration. This strike lasted only 13 days and a total of 86 games were missed.

    The most famous strike in MLB history, the players and owners disagree on having a salary cap. The work stoppage happened mid way through the 1994 season, and lasted 232 days. A total of 938 games are missed and the whole 1994 playoffs, including the world series, is missed.

    The first lockout of the NBA occurs, with owners and players disagreeing on player salaries. The NBA owners and NBAPA come to an agreement on September 18th,1995 ending the 80 day lockout.

    Already having two strikes under his belt as commisoner, Gary Bettman again locks out the players on September 15th,2004.

    The owners cancel the 2004-2005 season, in which they later decide to cancel the 2005 NHL draft.

    On behalf of the players, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning file an Anti-Trust lawsuit against the league. At midnight, the league is offically locked out.
