Dawn of Advertising
Advertisements began playing on the radio in the 1920s, and even though many people dread them, they are what make radio what they are. -
FM
FM waves were discovered, which have a much stronger and clearer signal. -

Also, just as a side note, music was not really played on the radio at this time. Mostly, talk shows and news were played, music would come in later. -
Rise of Television
When television started to become popular, it gave radio a problem because nobody was really listening to the radio anymore, but only one thing could save radio... -

Music started to play on the radio around this time, and this is what made people listen to the radio again. -
Music Streaming
Music streaming services like SoundCloud and Spotify have really put a dent in radio over recent years, but radio is still alive to this day.
